I have a similar problem with my 5 year old son, he has been seen by a speech therapist and has a speech delay the thing with him is that he doesnt use words as I, in, the, I want its very strange because I correct him and tell him how 2 say it correctly I must have told him over 200 times I want to go TO THE PARK because he says I go park, and still he forgets. The difficult thing with these issues is that many times you or the doctor or the teachers think oh they are still young maybe it is immaturity... that was the case with my son, he has to repeat kinder because he had a hard time following directions etc etc. Well good luck and know that there are others that are dealing with issues like this. We have to be advocates for our kids, and do whatever is necessary to help them thrive!!!
Sounds like this is more then just a speech problem,I think you need to have her checked out. Hope they can help! Lily
Of course, a visit to your pediatrician is in order. I have seen children stutter when they are excited or nervous. You can try encouraging her to calm down and speak slowly. Tell her that you will wait for her to finish speaking, no matter how long that takes. Make sure she knows that you love her no matter how she talks, and that you take her seriously when she has something to say. The thing is this: kids fear being made fun of or reprimanded for being 'different'. If you can make her feel calm and secure with you, no matter how she talks, that is a step toward her developing the skills she needs to communicate clearly with others. Hope this helps!
