I was given Paxil for my first medication for anxiety and depression. Let's just say it made me feel like I could run a 10 mile marathon in 2 minutes. Not good for someone who was already climbing the walls. It also made me have weird vision. I would see white lines squiggling in my peripheral vision. Scary. It also blurred my vision in one very small spot. Needless to say, I stopped taking it.

I was then prescribed Lexapro. I have a really bad stomach (acid reflux from hell) and these pills made it unbearable. I couldn't stand the pains in the stomach.

Then I was given Xanax, which is only a sedative. I took 1/2 a pill as needed and it took the edge off. One 20 pill prescription would last me 3 months or more. Then I learned they were addictive, but not at the dose I took. It still scared me enough to stop them.

Now with the heart meds I take, I can't Xanax anymore anyway. I take nothing for anxiety or depression right now, although my doctor prescribed Zoloft recently. I got the Rx filled, but never took them as I heard they don't work with my heart medications very well. The last thing I need is more pills anyway, but I certainly don't want any dangerous interactions.

I'm sure the doctor will find something that works well for you. Goodness knows there's plenty of medications out there.

I have tried many antidepressants and ended up on the first one my doctor gave me.  Paxil.  Generic paxil.  I gained alot of weight the first time and I thought it was from the paxil but it wasnt it was cuz i quit smoking at the same time i started the paxil.  This drug really works for me the minute i feel like im going to cry i go take my medication and im fine.  I never realized i was depressed but i did know I had alot of anxiety.  I would give paxil a try but like everyone says each one works differently on each person.  Good Luck!

I FEEL THE SAME WAY. I TAKE XANAX  AT THE MOMENT TO SAY THE LEAST. I USED TO TAKE LEXAPRO BUT IT TOOK TOO LONG TO ADJUST TO. WELLBUTRIN XL WAS MORE EFFECTIVE AND GAVE ME NO SIDE EFFECTS HOWEVER NOT EVERYONE REACTS THE SAME. I ALSO HAVE BIPOLAR AND INSOMNIA SO I TAKE EFFEXOR XR(WHICH I STRONGLY RECOMMEND FOR DEPRESSION) AND SEROQUEL. WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR MEDICATION TRY KEEPING YOURSELF ACTIVE DOING SOMETHING YOU REALLY ENJOY TO SEE HOW WELL THE MEDS REACT WITH YOUR DAILY ROUTINES; THE MEDS SEEM TO TAKE BETTER EFFECT FOR ME THAT WAY WHILE ALLOWING ME TO CONTINUE WITH MY DAILY ACTIVITIES....TIL LATER =}

Not a problem...also, remember that depression can peak during winter months.  Stress can also cause anxiety to peak, so stay on top of it!

Different medications effect different people in different ways.  With medications like Lexapro, it can take a good month until you begin to notice a difference.  I am a big proponent of medication as long as it is COMBINED with talk therapy.  In my opinion, the most important step you can take along this journey is by learning about why you think the way you do....a little knowledge about this can go a VERY long way...keep us posted!
