Carolan has some good suggestions.  It is very important that you get properly diagnosed and treated so you don't end up with a permanent disability.  I hope you can get to a doctor and get some answers.

I read your profile, so it's your feet, correct? A lot depends on where in your feet you're having pain. Osteoarthritis of the hindfoot (the bones and joints between your heel and the front of your ankle) is not uncommon. It can be caused by normal wear and tear, or an undiagnosed deformity in the bones. One signal that the problem is in the hindfoot is that the majority of your pain happens when you rotate the foot laterally (side to side, like rolling your ankle). The pain can also sometimes extend up into the lower legs as your muscles tense up to try to "protect" the joints from pain.

Are your feet swollen?

Are you diabetic? If so, ask your doctor if it could be peripheral neuropathy.

Do you have bunions and/or hammertoes? These are often congenital (inherited) and can cause pain, as well.

Do you tend to go barefoot or shoeless a lot, or often wear flip-flop type sandals? You might be better off wearing a good, supportive walking shoe.

As you can see, foot pain can be caused by a wide variety of issues. A referral to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot issues might be in order.

In the meantime, try hot or cold compresses to temporarily relieve pain. Sometimes gentle compression helps to stabilize the foot and reduce swelling. You can do this with elastic ankle braces or ace bandages, easily purchased at any walmart or pharmacy.

Hi there,

Have you been examined by a doctor? Exactly what part of your body is hurting?
