MS vs Lupus

Hello all I am knew here so bare with me... I have a dilema that is causing me extreme anxiety. Im hoping someone here can help. Here it goes.. # weeks ago I ex;perienced a sudden unexpected death that had me extremely depressed/stressed. So my first symptom since experiencing the loss started with feeling extremely fatiqued moreso than usual as I am fatiqued quite a bit. So PCP did blood work and found that I had a positive ANA titer 1:2560. I was referred to a rheumy because with that titer and family history of lupus she felt it would be for the best. So rheumt did a tremendous amount of bllod test including another ANA titer which was normal and so was all the other lupus tests... However I still have significant hip, shldr, ankle pain in swellling... However since he says everything was negative my symptoms seemed to fade, but then.... I started getting some very, mild numbness in left side of face that has not gone away. Saw a neurologist who did an EMG which was fine, neurological testing was fine but the MRI showed 2 small lesions. So he is having me do testing for MS, such as a spinal tap. My question is has anyone ever had lesions present on their brain with any numbness present and if so was it MS?

You may want to get tested for Lyme Disease, brain lesions are common and swollen joints and facial paralysis (Bells Palsy) are the two main things doctors look for with Lyme. Request the Western Blot test, IgG and IgM. The Elisia is the least reliable test but the most common one used.

Welcome to MedHelp

Wow!  You have a really high ANA.  Your story sounded sort of like mine, except I didn't have the brain lessions.  From what I hear the brain lessions and MS go together.  But I'm not sure you would have an ANA level that high.  I would be willing to think you have both MS and Lupus.  What was the pattern of your ANA?

Some of the other test for lupus are not always possitive.  Especially during the beginning stages.  I would be willing to guess you had been out in the sun prior to the 2,560 reading and not during the neg. reading.  My ANA has jumped around from neg to 2,560 too.  And everything else was normal.  Some of the other numbers are just now starting to rise, but they are still in the normal range.  I've been dx with lupus and fibromyalgia.

I'm hopingsomeone with MS could expound on the joint pain.  I know that joint pain is a definite symptom of lupus.  As well as mouth ulcers, hair falling out, muscle pain, headaches, nausea, and diarrhea.  There are 11 criteria for a lupus dx.  One must have 4 in order to get dx.  You don't have to have all 4 at the same time.  Sometimes this takes a little time, so be very patient.

We are here for you and would like to help you in every way we can.
