Methotrexate

Does anyone know if skipping a dose of methotrexate can be harmful?  I started the medication about 2 months ago and went to emergency yesterday for dizzyness, heavy and tingling limbs, pale etc.  I was supposed to take my medicine last night but I didnt.  My doctors office is closed.  Im not to happy with being on this drug, in fact I dont want to take it again. Im in the process of finding a new rheumatologist that doesnt just stick my on the harshest drug right away.

I think alot of my worry with this drug is that my Dr. doesnt really explain anything to me.  I was on plaquenil at first and I was nauseaus everyday.  Mind you , I was only on it for about a month or so.  With no questions asked he decided to put me on methotrexate...which also made me sick daily.  I did my own research to find out that i could take folic acid to help with symptoms...no help from him!  I just wonder if he is even thinking about the consequences of this drug or is this his answer to everything.
I am looking for a new Dr. now.

I certainly understand your reluctance to continue on with methotrexate.  I'm an RN (disabled now) and was working when I was diagnosed with RA.  Naturally, I looked it up in the drug reference books and was also scared.  My rheumatologist explained that this is one of the older and more reliable treatments for RA and would be worth the risk for me to prevent/delay the crippling effects of the disease.  Very smart of you to go to the ER for those kind of troubling symptoms, though.  You and your doctor must weight the risks versus the benefits to determine if it's right for you. Personally, if I miss a dose/take it late, my RA acts up very shortly after.  I don't believe it's 'addicting' though, but always best to ask the MD.  Good luck to you.
