Parathesias

A very healthy active, 46 year old female; approximately 3 months ago, experienced numbness/tingling in both legs; symmetrical. Thought it was my chair or from sitting at my desk too long. Over the weekend my legs felt “over exercised” tired, achy and heavy. During exercise my legs felt very heavy. Over the next few days, parathesias now in both arms/hands, clumsy grips and tired feeling. A little tingling around my mouth. I did have “chills” during this time and it exacerbated the tingling sensations in my extremities. I have noticed some improvement but week by week not day by day. I still have residual annoying sensations in my forearms and mostly lower legs. The tired and achy feeling is occasional. Some days are better than others. Just prior to all of this happening, was started on vitamin D for a level of 13. Initially was told to go off the Vitamin D as perhaps it was causing my symptoms. B12 was WNL, MRI brain which showed insignificant white foci; ruled out MS and my cervical spine showed a small herniation but on the left side only without nerve entrapment. Neurologist could not find any causes for my symptoms from the scans. My neuro exam was essentially normal. He could not give me a definitive diagnosis. EMG was reported as normal. ANA +  with + Sjorgen’s test.  Will be seeing a Rheumatologist end of next month. I would like to know what happened to me; I have been researching all sorts of differential diagnosis including Guillan Barre, Sjorgen’s and peripheral neuropathy, small fiber neuropathy, etc… Very frustrating as I was perfectly healthy before this happened. I am trying to resume my normal activities and exercise. Any suggestions?

Reading your symptoms, I would not agree on your claim "a very healthy and active".   These types of problems generally dont arise overnight, but a result of a longer period of "something" being wrong.   I would suggest seeing a holistic practitioner with your symptoms.

I to am dealing with this same thing .It's as if I wrote your statements per quote. If YOU DO find an answer for what we have gotten ,and or a treatment plan that makes things better instead of worse! PLease!!! post . This 45 yr. old female from WI. has been sharing your same experience since I believe mid to late Feb. 2010. unfortunate for me at the same time my wrist broke and soon after ended up in E.R. again for kidney stone .At that time the hsp. asked me if I had anything besides CFS and hypoglycemia. that hadn't been said to me before that time and since obtaining my med. record; it's not there either.I beleive The Rheumy. is not concerned with the weakness, ect.. she.s so concerned over spontanious fracture. SOoo where as i hardly stand ; so to speak .As other simpex issues arise ,I do get appropriate medical attention. however to compound my ailment ..I have been put on another anti- convulsant  causing more fatigue to get worse  and an immune suppressant that I guess i can only say .What ever doesn't kill ya, will evenually make you a stronger person..But again I go for med. records and lab results to see why the drs. feel its so importent to give me sickening meds.Nothing much was in the notes . NO diagnosis ..Rheumy had spoke in person having. said quote .I had bones of someone over 70.at risk for spontanious fracture,Rhuematoid arth.,osteoporosis, and when i again bring up what caused me to not be able to walk,,hard to brealth ,ultimately  pea brownish for a number of days, still feel weak ect.. and i need my life back, she says Fibromiagia flare..!    I've not been on line much to know all bout thoughs ailments but.i.ve allways been like an energizer bunny ,that could keep pushing on and get the rush of giddy energy that kept my going to get things done ..people could always count on me. Now most of what my people say to my is your to thin ,pail, and when i'm asked to go just to the market. they mean well but,,there's no place to rest at a grocery store and even though I can't take humidity .there it's to many freezer sections .i feeI  completely poopped doing that. I have visibly aged..and most the time my brain is like mash potatoes. enough babble..

Hi and welcome to MedHelp.

Symptoms of Sjorgren's are dry eyes, dry mouth and arthritis.  I know the disease is much more involved.  It can also dry other organs in the body and cause problems there too.

Guillan-Barre' - a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the nervous system, leading to numb, weak limbs and in severe cases, paralysis.

What is your ANA and the pattern?

Hi,
Good luck with your rheumatologist visit. I was a healthy 19 yr old girl and developed Guillan Barre.  I was luck to recover without any residual effects, I guess because I had youth on my side.  Even though this was 40 years ago I still remember alot about what I experienced, i.e my father had to get me off the toilet, walking my beagle, he pulled me down but I fell on grass luckily.  I was hospitalized only one month so it was not a severe case.  But my point is keep seeing medical professionals who are helpful and ask lots of questions.  I'm an Rn (ret) and feel very strongly about this.  It is your body and you should know everything that's being done and why. My problem is pain med addiction due to MRSA contracted after surgery requiring 5 surgeries within 3 years to eradicate it.  So far not successful and I'm going for another total knee replacement in about 2 weeks.  Anyway, I just wanted to give encouragement since I've had your symptoms.  Good luck.
