Thyroid

My thyroid is going crazy.  Have had Hashimotis Thyroiditis for 20 years.  Now after a shingles episode 2 years ago I cannot get my thyroid under control and then I was diagnosed with Hashimotis Enceophalopathy  6 mo ago started steroid therapy at 60mg and tapering down to 2.5 mg 2 weeks ago.  I feel so exhausted,, nauseated and my whole body-muscles/bones have started hurting. I should add that 6 weeks ago my TSH was 9.4 and am having it repeated tomorrow.  Thank you for your help.

Hi!
Yes, any inflammation or infection can affect the thyroid function, especially if you have thyroiditis of any type. You need a more regular thyroid monitoring with an endocrine specialist until your TSH level touches 3. Maybe after the steroid therapy, the hormone levels will improve.
Also, sometimes restricting gluten in your diet improves the thyroid function. Try this and if this works, you must get tested for celiac disease or for gluten intolerance. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.

Thank you for your comments.  I have been tested for celiac disease before which was negative but will check into the gluten testing. Also, my results came back from the latest tsh test and now it is 11.6!!!! I hope I can get to the bottom of this--now my A!C has jumped to 9--after having normal levels before.  I am to call my endo tomorrow as he has questions for me.  Do you have any thoughts on removing the thyroid gland and could it offer any relief from this madness.
