Vitamin Supplments and Autoimmune Hepatitis

I was recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis and I would like to know if I should be on any kind of vitamin supplementation?  The Doctor put me on 40mg of Prednisone  everyday, but didnt say anything about vitamins.

Do some research on the long term effect of prednisone, and you might want to reconsider (prednisone can cause damage to liver as well...).  Since your liver is targeted, look into taking milk thistle (silymarin..protects liver from toxins) as a supplement.    Orthodox MDs seldom give much attention to letting the body heal itself, they need to prescribe toxic drugs.    I would highly suggest working with a good nutrionist and holistic practitioner, they for the most have a lot more to offer, especially with autoimmune disorders.  Vit B is vital for liver issues.. stay off alchol and coffee..drink green tea...etc.etc theres a lot you can do I urge you to do research online, lots of info.

How long do you think you have to be on Prednisone? Talk to your doctor about the effects it has on the bones and osteoporosis.

I would suggest you get the book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Phyllis A. Balch, CNC" which list the supplements you should take for this disease.  Vitamin C in high dosage(5,000 - 10,000mg) is recommended.  Studies show improvement quickly with high dosage.  It also suggest eating a diet mainly of raw fruits and vegetables which give the body many of the nutrients it needs to repair itself.  Avoid fats, sugar, and highly processed foods.  "Avoid all raw fish, shellfish and eat no animal protein.  Avoid food chemicals and food additives. You should also be aware of the drugs you are taking and their effect.  Tylenol is toxic to the liver.
