Maybe request they do a standing or sitting MRI. These MRIs show the load that sitting or standing puts on the spine and sometimes catches things that a regular or traditional MRI might not pick up...
I have had a lot of luck with pain specialists, because they are not wed to one solution or one modality of treatment. I also can make another suggestion.
If 3 months of whatever treatment suggested does not help (or if even one month makes it worse) GET A SECOND, THIRD OR EVEN FOURTH OPINION! I got a second opinion by accident on something when i changed insurance companies and my old specialist was not a panel doctor in my new insurance. My new Pain specialist's PHYSICIAN' ASSISTANT was ging over my medical history with me and i mentioned the possibility of future knee replacement surgery for my arthritis - I had been seeing a Physical therapist for this, and that was why i was at the specialist - for a new referral for that.
To make a long story short - he suggest a series of shots for my arthritic knees which have been used in Japan since the 1960's and now i can walk up and down stairs like an adult instead of a toddler.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE TREATMENT YOU'RE GETTING FROM A DOCTOR, S/HE IS NOT THE ALMIGHTY. - TRY A NEW MD.
Now he's working on the arthritis on my spine.
