Sharp pain in upper back and left shoulder, pain increase upon breathing.

I have been having a sharp burning pain in my upper back mostly on the left side by the shoulder blade.  At times my neck and left arm are effected too. The pain is present upon rising and lasts throughout the day. I am concous of my posture and do not believe it to be the cause. The pain worsens if i am carring anything at arms lengths or even if i am carring a light bag over either of my shoulders.  I have tried; hot, cold, advil and exercise but i haven't seen any releif for the past 5 months. The only thing i think that could have caused the pain is when i moved about 5 months ago.  There was a great deal of lifting and stress. I am 26 years old and feel like this pain is limiting my ability to go about my daily task. Any suggestions please?

Hi,
I too, am 19 years old and I have the same similar pains in my upper left back behind the shoulder blade. It is a very sharp pinching pain. I have been told that it could be a pulled muscle or a strain in the nerves. That could be what is wrong with yours as well. I havnt been to a doc because I dont have insurance at the moment but I dont think its anything severe, just rub it, and Aspercreme works really well for me. You might want to try that as well. I hope your pain goes away just like I hope for mine too.
Good Luck!

Reading all of these comments makes me finally realize I am not alone! I am seriously tearing up reading the description of everyone's pain and how nobody can help us. I am 23 years old. When I turned 18 one morning I woke up and I thought I pulled my entire back out, I was dying of pain. It felt like as a lot of you said a knife stabbing into me. Weeks passed and nothing changed, it only got worse. Month and month after month I went to doctor after doctor and Nobody knew what was wrong with me. 5 years later now I honestly don't remember what it is like to live a single single second without excruciating pain! Around my left upper shoulder Its stabbing me and by my lower skull. It's all I think about. I have to lean on my left side and literally twitch every 2 seconds or push on my skull. I look like I have serious turrets. By me twitching it doesn't stop the pain but it keeps me from screaming. I would do anything in the world if somebody knew what was wrong with me. I can't live like this anymore.

I was tired and when I tried to go to sleep on my side I found my shoulder and arm hurt something awful.  My late mother had studied to be a doctor (Bright's disease took care of that idea) and had constant back problems that given the time period (1940s-1990s) had to be more or less self medicated most of her life.  Following this example (it was a Saturday and ER is hours of a long wait for them to even see you) I took a mixture of painkillers with 1 g vitamin C and calcium-magnesium-zinc to get me through the night.

The next day I took a massage shower with the jet of very warm water on where the pain was the most intense.  After a few minutes I hear this "pop" in the shoulder area and the pain dropped in intensity like a stone.  The shoulder still hurts but nowhere it did before and I have the thing calmed down to where it is manageable (there are hours where there is no pain at all)

Don't know if this will work for you but it might help.

I recommend to everyone to try an Iplikator acupressure mat. I have been using it for years, my symptoms are not so bad, but still, it is great relief for back pain. It´s natural (and cheap), and a great help.
Check dolorfree.com or just google and find for yourselves, but it's worth it.

We have to do this, please try this, it's not gonna be cured in 1 day and the pain will probably return but here are my therorys to relieving the pain here and now, with the sore shoulder arm, palace yr hand on the back of yr neck and keep lifting that shoulder up and down so yr pointing yr elbow to the ceiling I do this about 20 times and feel instant relief, doesn't completely go away but I do this just for relief try this too stand with yr back against the wall and touch yr chest with yr chin and lift, do this about 10 times aday, 1 other 1 is to sit in an arm chair facing forward keep yr body still whilst grabbing the arm of the chair with both hands, hold for 5 seconds, release, then grab the other arm of the chair with both hands do this slowly for about 20 times keep theses excercises up every day and the pain will be relieved, keeping in mind the pillow under the neck does help I do this every night too  hope these exercises help, mthey help me
