Extremeley Painful

Every now and then I experience severe pain between my shoulder blades and mild pain in my chest.  The best way I can explain it is this... it feels like a 2 x 4 going through my chest and out my back... My doctor has run tests to check my gallbladder, liver, and kidneys. Everything looked fine.  What can this be caused from????? I was in the E.R. two nights ago and they said I had "chest wall pain with pleurisy."  Okay so what about the severe pain in my back that has yet to subside..... Please help

Mine's the other way around. Pain radiating across chest and shoulders(lifting both arms very painful but right worse)  then pain between shoulder blades. Had a barium swallow, ECG's, ultra sound for aortic aneurysm,CT scan on throat area (had partial thyroid removal last year) and thought the pain could be due to that. Had the CT result back today and everything is fine. Was diagnosed with Spondylitis in my neck many years ago. Painkillers offer little relief. Sick of endless visits to doctors and hospitals. Feeling very old & fed up.

I found out recently that it could be an aortic aneurysm.  There needs to be an ultrasound done of the aortic.  Not the same as the carotids but the descending aortic that is near the stomach... Who knows, like I said, I just want someone to fix me. I am too young to be feeling this way all the time.

Thank you.... for understanding and kind of knowing the pain I'm in. I have been to through a series of gastro tests and had another ultrasound of the upper right quandrant today. Results next week.  I just want one of these doctors to figure out what it is and fix me!!!!  I think if the results don't show anything I'm going to Shands.

You should both have someone look at your neck.   My spinal surgeon said almost all pain in the shoulder blade area originates from the neck.  I had the same thing you describe.    Had a badly torn disk at c5-6 and had the fusion about 6 weeks ago.  I still have some pain between my shoulder blades, but not nearly as severe as before surgery.  My doc also recently gave me a scrip for Lyrica, and it seems to be helping a lot.

I also think you described it well with the "2 x 4"!! Cuz that's exactly what it feels like. Unlike my description  as "a twisting  wide blade". I like yours better :o)

I'm feeling your pain...literally! I've been having those pains in my shoulder blades but thru to my chest with as much pain. I've also had it wake me before...has that happened to you?  As a matter of fact, it was so bad today, that I thought I was having a heart attack - then I threw up. THAT has never happened before! My dr has suggested that it might be my esphagus...I couldn't get an appointment until next month tho to see a specialist. Will let you know if I find out anything before then. I hope you'll do the same!
