Although I'm of absolute no help to your question (I live in Canada) I know how you feel. I have chronic pain (and I'm a Registered Nurse) and my doctor doesn't even think I have pain... and because of it, he made me pick up my pills (only codeine contins and T3s--only haha) ONCE A WEEK.. after sobbing my brains to him about how crazy that was, he changed it to TWO WEEKS which is more bearable. Its crazy how every day I have to worry about when I have to take my pills (three times a day), and where will I be when I need to take them, how many I need to bring with me, etc etc--- I didn't need him making me have another medication problem to contend with!!! I hate HATE having to feel as though I have no control. I hate pills. I hate being a slave to them too. I hate my jaw pain and hopefully surgery will help-- that's if they let me get it :/ Who would have thought jaw pain would change my whole life and turn it upside down?
I hope you are able to have some form of function with your day with the methadone. I think its very responsible and brave of you to want to change, and grab a hold of the situation by the horns and getter done. I don't know your situation, but it doesn't help having many years of dependency, as your body becomes accustomed to the meds and strengths need to get stronger and stronger. If you ever want to chat just message me.
Good luck, I hope its covered! Dana
