Anti-Agitation Medications

Are there any medications that can treat the agitation / irritability factor from bipolar disorder?

One of my pdocs had me taking Ativan as needed for agitation.  If I started crying uncontrollably in the hospital that's what the staff would give me instead of asking why I was crying, also if I was really angry and making a big scene that's what they would give me to calm down.

as IL said lamictal is good. also seroquel is very effective

Well that can occur during mixed states. I know for myself Lamictal was the most helpful for treated mixed states (such as an agitated mixed state where a person has the down aspect of  depression but the sped up quality of mania so they seem angry at the world) but each person  responds differently to each medication. It would be essential to note when agitation/irritability comes and goes and explain that to your psychiatrist and they could see what might be the cause and what could best treat it.
