Just checked my book apparently Neroli is good as an anti depressant and best for Stress and tension and Lime is good for reducing irritability, stress and tension and mood swings. Not to mention they make your room smell nice.
Ylang Ylang and Bergamot is also a big one for Depression
Juniper for Anxiety
Geranium for Mood swings
Hope it helps let me know if you want to know anymore.
Lavender for relaxation, headaches and insomnia (In the bath or on a compress)
Sandalwood apparently for a luxurious anti-depressant (in the bath)
Juniper and Mandarin for premenstrual problems (Compress)
Juniper and Fennel for a hangover. (In a wet compress)
Frankincense for meditation (Aroma Burner)
Geranium or Rosewood for mood creators (with an Aroma burner)
or Geranium and Bergamot for general relaxation (in a massage oil)
Also remember that Aromatherapy only means the oil has an aromatic smell, Aromatic also stands for an aromatic ring which chemically most of these oils contain a lot of. So it's more about it being absorbed in your body than just smelling it. That's why when you get a massage with an aromatherapy oil in it you are more likely to fall asleep as it is absorbed by your whole body through your skin.
Also just so you know my favourite combination smell out of all of them is Lime and Neroli put them in aroma burner for a really uplifting smell in your room.
Love the idea of a pouch, think I'll have to make one of them myself.
Wow gang some great ideas, I haven't got a comfort word but I'm going to bring it up with my psychologist to see if we can work on one, maybe I might see if I can get one and add a bit of extra comfy to it through hypnosis wouldn't that be cool. I don't think I'll look to the ceiling and scream "Serenity now!" though, sorry couldn't resist.
Regarding the scents I did a course a few years back in Aromatherapy, I'll dig out my old text book and see what I can find to help with soothing.
Oh Xila, that is heartbreaking.
I hope he is with you now.

For a whole year after I lost custody of my son and didn't see him anymore for a whole year, I carried one of his socks in my pocket. I also had a toothbrush that was given to him during trick or treating. He never used it, but I used it for a long time and was really attached to it because it reminded me of him and something happy together.
Thanks for the feedback. Your idea of creating a 'safe pocket' sounds like a good, in fact I might have to start contemplating about making one.
I have this one scent that is made by Hollister (I don't remember the name though) that makes me feel relaxed and calm; however, it is a cologne and thus a more masculine scent. So, I don't plan on wearing the stuff, but would just want to carrying it around with me, for just-in-case situations. I am unsure how to go around this without being conspicuous though.
Thanks for sharing the link to the scent! I will just have to visit the local Lush store in the future to smell around. C:

HoneyNut - if I could, I'd carry an actual blanket with me 24/7. At home, I have this one blanket with me at all times. My dog and I share it. It's the best gift I've ever received from someone.
But I have been meaning to put together a 'safe pocket.' Like a little change purse or something with tokens in there that remind me of happy times. Safe times.
And I actually do have a security scent. It's by Lush. "Olive Branch."

I put a hairdryer to it for a few seconds to soften it up then stroke it on my pulse points. Then through the day, I'll smell my wrist and it's like my whole body just melts. Including my brain. It's really a magical scent. Even my Mother agrees and we don't agree on anything!
Xila31 - It is a relief to know that I'm not the only one going through letters of the alphabet to soothe my mind. c:
Does anyone carry anything physical (such as a texture or scent) around with them, for comfort? Sort of like a "baby blanket".
One of my favourite words is BUBBLE! mmm could just float away! O
O O
O O O O O
O O O O
O O O

ooh, I have another one I just remembered. "Breathe." Just saying it feels nice. :)
This is all very good. It is a relief that other people do this, too. I have been having such a hard time recently.
I have what I call a " cue relaxation word" Mine is very simple and it is " relax" I have practiced using that word to calm me so now when I say it- I feel a sense of calmness and it really helps with my anxiety. I use deep breathing exercises while saying the word. I inhale to the count of 5 and exhale to the count of 7 saying " relax."
Hm, thinking about this, I can't really come up with anything. I wish I could, though. I very often get the torrent of thoughts that end up getting stuck on one word, repeating over and over, but it would be nice to have one that I could conjure up in those cases to find some sort of center, I would imagine. Words are very potent to me, so perhaps I should give this some thought!
My son is 10yrs old and has many difficulties, he says, the word .Mummy' comforts him too. Too me comfort is the word cloud............I imagine a white fluffy cloud that I am in the middle of just floating around in the warm air. -x-
Whenever anything ever went wrong, no matter what, I always told myself, "My Mother loves me" and it always made me feel comforted and safe. Now that Mother has passed away, I have to tell myself that "Mother still loves me"!
It is good to know it is not just me! A relief, you know?
Funny. I thought only I did this!
"Home" is mine. Works for me every time, whether or not I'm actually in my house. "Home" means more than just the place I live. It's that cozy, comfy, safe spot under my blanket where no one can harm me. Ahhh, hoooome... :)
Yes, that sounds similar. It is just the sound that is so soothing. I don't know why either.
This is a good question -- it really made me think if I had one or not.
My brain seems be wired to be visual, because if I had a comfort word it would be 'birds'. Just the word brings images of the quirky nature of birds. I would also say I have comfort letters, like 'k', 's', 'm'. Why those letters, I have no clue, they just seem soothing to me.
