I always need to have silence to cope

When I am the full swing of my bipolar episode (anxious, angry, irritable ) I must have silence. Any loud noises. Tv. Dogs barking my partner wanting a conversation; it send me off the deep end. Then I lash out because my silence has been broken. I don't want everyone on egg shells or me a recluse. I have just resumed 300mg valproate doping that hemos. Any suggestions?

i can completely relate to the noise sensitivity. i get that as well. i ask people to turn music down or off, i leave politely, i use my fingers to plug my ears when it gets bad.
most people just dont understand and seem to think i am being drama queen or trying to be controlling. people are so weird, i have no idea why it is so hard to believe or understand.

I get this way too even when not in an episode, its important that the ones around you are aware of the fact you can't stand loud noises so they not do loud things, other than that i would defiantly talk to your psychiatrist about getting meds sorted out so you come out of your episode.

Hope this helps some

Buy a good set of ear plugs. Then you can have your silence without making others walk on egg shells.

Yes I can have that concern at times. You could ask your psychiatrist how to address any concerns as to the helpful effect of the medication not working at specific times or when mania increases and what is the appropriate way to address this and what dose or titration might be of help at what time.
