Is it possible for a twelve year old to have bipolar disorder?

My twelve year old daughter has some common symptoms of bipolar disorder. It also runs in our family is it possible for her to have it. If so is there a test she can take or an evaluation for her? What should my first step be?

I know it is definitely possible. I started having episodes when  I was less than ten years old (I am 32 now). If it runs in the family her chances are even greater. I would take her to see a therapist.

Family doctor is first step and ask for a referral to a psychiatrist.  To my knowledge it runs in families, you need to catch it early and you will save yourself a world of heartache will horrible behavior and possible drug and alcohol abuse and even a risk of suicide if you catch it now.  Please do not wait.  And remember I am an experienced patient who cannot give medical information.  I can only give information from my life experiences.

Yes it is possible expecially if it runs in the family the first syep is to talk to s doctor, but it could be that her body is changing and is going through puperty
