Seeing colors?

I know that hallucinations and hearing things are a main symptom of Schizophrenia but since my daughters last Bi-polar episode she swears she is seeing colors move. Like the "popcorn" stuff on the ceilings and the paint behind it- she says the paint is moving. It is worse when she gets upset. Reading is almost impossible because she says the letters are moving, worse on the computer. I don't know if this is a new developing symptom, a med side affect or what? Does anyone have similar symptoms?

With Psychosis is the person aware that this is happening?

She has been actively psychotic once before but she was seeing "things" there were people trying to pull her into traffic and talking her into harming herself. This was during a weekend of I am not sick there is nothing wrong with me, I am going to stop my med's. Once back on her medication this stopped almost immediately. This episode of cycling has been going on for almost a month. She is has not been able to go to school- she was wanting to go back tomorrow. She is terrified.

Her doctor knows about this and didn't seem to find it concerning. She has upped her Lithium and her lamictal this month, also.

Namaste,

What you describe could be bipolar disorder with psycholtic features which is a common condition, expecially amongst those with Bipolar I.

There are medication(s) which will treat the psycholtic aspects although most of them have some adverse side effects, most notably weight gain.

This is not something to panic over, but you should contact your mental health provider, so that appropriate treatment can be initiated.

Let us know how you are doing and take care of yourself!
