I have mirena and I think it's great. Don't believe all of the negative stuff you read about it on the internet.  There is a disproportionate number of negative reviews online because people don't typically go out of their way to look for a message board when they aren't having issues to praise the type of birth control they picked. Message boards are flooded with people who have problems and are looking for advice. There are a lot more people than that out there who don't post about stuff because they are not having any problems so they feel there's no need to post. Every woman who I've met offline that has Mirena had only had good things to say about it. It's only people online who complain about it. Because those of us who aren't having problems are not posting.

I'm on my third Mirena and I'm not planning to use any other bc option ever again because this one is the best one that has helped me with my heavy periods and reduced them to nothing more than spotting. Nothing else I've tried has worked for me except this and that's why I'm sticking with it. I recommend it as an option that women should try because it's great.

Hi Karmababy651,

Just read your post. Just a note of caution. Before choosing a type of birth control do your homework, so to speak. A Mirena IUD has been suggested
by another MedHelp member. This might be suitable for you, but I would google Mirena IUD and see what information you can find about it.
Also I would have a birth control discussion with your family doctor and
ask your doctor if the Mirena IUD is the best choice for you based on your
own medical history. Ask her or him if there are any risks using this form
of birth control, possible side effects. Ask lots of questions and see what
your doctor advises. Good luck. Eve :)

The Mirena IUD is your best bet.  It greatly reduces or stops periods in many women, although it's not guaranteed, and it lasts for 5 years.  You can have it taken out at any time, and you do not need to have been pregnant to get it.
