Discontinuing depo after six months...can i be pregnant

My daughter was on depo for six months..however, she switched back to the pill on dec 14 right before it was time for her 3rd jab of depo on 12/26.  She said she took the whole pack, the next pack should have been refilled around the  11th of January...it did not get refilled until January 25th and I dont think she took the jpack as prescribed.  NOW she has all kinds of signs of being pregnant..bloating, extreme heartburn, nausea, tender and swollen breast, fatigue, sleeping more than normal, mood swings, cravings...Yes we have take a few cheap pregnancy test and they have came back negative...we are thinking about buying a digital one...The reason for my concern is that i have a friend who was on depo for 2 years, never missed a dose or was late taking the jab.....she felt changes in her body and took several test, even a blood test and they came back negative, after having increase stomach pains, her doctor thought she had fiboird tumors...only after the ultra sound did she and her health care provider discover that she was 16 weeks pregnant...that is wild...I have two other friends that also conceived on depo and all their test came back negative until they were futher along in their pregnancy...I been reading that coming off of depo has some bad side effects as well....did she have enough of this drug to make her feel like ****...she feels ill all the time....can some tell us if u have had this same problem.....desperate for help...

OMG!!!!!   she is so stressed...I thinks she want  to be in the family way so bad that her body is releasing the p-hormones...the significant other is just as stressed...he is 20 and if the test is positive, this will be his first child as well...She is afraid that depo has messed up her body...I told her to just be still and everything will be okay....

I'm glad to hear that he ordered some blood tests... let me know how it goes.

if you don't mind me asking, how old is your daughter?

Well we went to the Dr and the urine test came back negative, but her Dr was still concerned with slight traces of hormones that is produce when your body is pregnant...so yes he ordered a blood test...he said we should have the results back in a day or two...She is still quite nausated and has gained 3 pounds since her last visit.   I would never ever recommend Depo to anyone...it does the trick well if u do not want kids in the NOW...but if the desire ever hits..be prepared for a emotional roller coaster...thanks for the reply

haha, yeah... we all know or have heard of "someone", I know....
My post didn't make sense now that I read it again...
The thing about the article was just a comment I was making. Those women are obviously VERY rare cases.... some even had regular periods throughout the pregnancy.

Either way, if a woman thinks she's pregnant and home tests have negative results, a blood test is best.

So, TO semajmama: my suggestion is to have her go to the DR's and get blood work done to make sure

Everyone has a story about "knowing someone" who never tested positive on a pregnancy test.  In fact, there is nothing mysterious about the hormone HCG.  If it is present in enough quantities to be detectable at the level of the test being performed, it will be detected.

In the vast majority of the cases where a friend of a friend knows someone who "never tested postive", its because they either tested too early, used dilute urine for the test, misread the results, or the test was defective.

If someone misses a period, they should test with a sensitive home pregnancy test using their first morning urine.  If that result is negative, they should test again in a week or so.  If it is still negative at that point and they don't get their period, they should see thier doctor who might want to order a blood test.

When you stop depo, it can take up to a year or more to get your periods back regularly, or even to menstruate at all.  Most women however, will have a return of their period within 3-6 months after discontinuing it.

Unfortunately, you can test negative no matter how far along you are. I read an article years ago about women who were pregnant and didn't know it until they went into labour. VERY rare, I know... but possible.

TO semajmama: Have you two thought about stopping the bc long enough for her to have a period to see if it comes back? I've heard that even after stopping the needle, it can take a while to get your period back. Of course, she would have to be more careful and use condoms. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info...we have an appointment set with our doctor for this week...She has not had a period yet and as of today we are 8 days late...I dont know if all these are side affects of coming of the depo, but i guess the blood test will soon tell.

If she wasn't taking pills correctly, she could be pregnant.

My best advice is to have her take a sensitive home pregnancy test.  If it is negative but she feels she still might be pregnant, she should see her doctor for a blood test.

There is no reason that a pregnancy test would be incorrect, if someone is actually pregnant and is far enough along to be detected, which is about 2-3 weeks after conception.
