Natural contraception

So my best friend explained to me before.. But I forgot again..! I am getting married soon and I don't want to use any sort of birth control and was thinking of natural ways to contracept.. My question was after how many days of your period can you be sextually active without having to use condoms? Is it when you are fertile that you may get pregnant or when you're ovulating? Or both? I just need to get a bit more clear on this..  Thanks

Even if you were to combine it with the pull-out method, it would be extremely risky.  They've actually found more frequently day 7 is when many women ovulate, while they used to say it was day 10.  But that's taking an average of many women, not that every woman does ovulate that day.  I seriously wouldn't take the risk unless you're ok with having a baby in your near future.

A condom (male or female) or another form of contraception would be best to avoid an unplanned pregnancy.  Babies are expensive.  You and your husband need to establish your relationship and your marriage as well as become financially strong enough to support a child in addition to both of you before you have one.

Your best friend, the pregnant one?  lol

Seriously, if you are going to do this by just timing alone, it might work ... if you only have unprotected sex about five days a month and your cycles are really really regular.

Please look up the female reproductive cycle.  Day 1 is the first day of bleeding of your cycle.  About day 5 or so, you stop bleeding from the period.  At about day 14, the "average" woman ovulates.  About day 28, the "average" woman is ready to have her next period, and the period either begins then or on day 29.

If you are trying to avoid pregnancy, the days you want to avoid are any time from about day 5 to about day 20, but again, this only will work if your cycle is really super-regular.  If you ovulated early or late one month and had unprotected sex, there you would be.  Especially since sperm is said to live up to 5, 6 or even 7 days in your reproductive tract.

You might use an ovulation test kit for a few cycles and chart your ovulation patterns, so you can extrapolate onto future months and have a clearer idea of what times to avoid unprotected sex.

Good luck; my mom had five kids when using this form of contraception.
