Thank you so much for your reply. It has been very informative and helpful. Gave me peace of mind to learn  that 25 is not an abnormally high esr. Sr you think I should follow this up rather than wait for another blood test in a few weeks' time?
I forgot to mention that my platelets went from 218 (previous test) to 183 (this test). My red cell count being 5. Do my platelets indicate pernicious anemia?
Thanks once again, Jo

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
ESR can be high if you have anemia. Any inflammation in the body too can cause high ESR. Usually, in most diseases diagnosed on basis of a high ESR (tuberculosis, cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, infective endocarditis, etc), the ESR is above 50 or 75. An ESR of 25 is not abnormally high. It could be due to anemia or worms in stool. Since you have neutropenia, the anemia could be due to vitamin B12 and folate deficiency. Lupus is another possibility. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!
