dexamethasone tapering

my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer in may, Glioblastoma.  He is reducing the steroind in in so much body pain. is this normal?

hI I just came back on this site and wanted to say I'm sorry about your husband getting GBM. I wanted you to know that we learned a lot during the year and a half that Jim had his tumor and I would like to be there for you if you  need support or questions. Sorry I missed this question! It was below the ad (the new format is weird!).
Actually, yes. The pain is from the withdrawal of the steroids. The steroids are an anti-inflammatory and they also suppress the immune system and the adrenal glands.

While the weaning is happening, the body now has to learn to wake up the adrenals, plus learn to not have the anti-inflammatory around. It is, sadly, akin to heroin withdrawal and is quite painful.

There are many ways to wean - so be careful to do it carefully and slowly!
