Breast Lesion

I am 34 years old, and discovered a lump in my left breast, I had a mammogram and an ultra sound done on it. That lump was found to be a benign cyst, but a hypo echoic lesion with irregular margins was discovered during the process. The lesion is 9x5 mm. The radiology report states that the breasts exhibit a heterogeneously dense patter. Also there is a benign-appearing axillary lump node noted. I have been referred to have an ultra-sound guided biopsy.

My maternal had breast cancer and had to have both breast removed at different ages (one around 45 and the other around 60). Any thoughts on what this could be? I don't want to instantly jump to cancer, so I'm trying to research other causes as well.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you. I will read more on fibroadenoma and will let you know the results of the biopsy. The waiting game is so stressful.

Hi,
Not all irregular shaped lesions are worrisome.A fibroadenoma ( benign solid breast tumor) is usually well defined, but can sometimes have an irregular shape. Also complicated cysts (fluid filled and debris) could appear irregular. The general appearance of a lesion does not necessarily indicate whether the area is benign or malignant.
Having heterogeneously dense breast would make mammogram “more difficult” to distinguish an abnormality and Radiologist prefer to perform a biopsy because it’s the only way to make sure that malignancy is ruled out..
For now,no one can tell you for sure what the lesion may represent.Try not to jump to any conclusion but lets hope for the best.
Please let us know when you receive your biopsy results and I hope you'll give us good news!.
Best wishes
