Anastrozole sideeffects

I have been on Anastrozole for year, 4 more to go (5 ys.)  I have the worse Joint pain, stiffness, hurts to walk, get up from chair, I get out of bed hurting, I ache everyday.  My skin and stays so dry, my hair grew back after chemo, but is lifeless, thin, etc.  I do not like this Pill and want to discontinue, but my Oncologist said it is doing me more good, to keep taking it.    This pill is really aging me, dry wrinkly skin, no energy, cant walk and move like I want to.  I am 75 but always had lots energy before cancer treatments (lumpectomy, chemo, radiation and now Anastrozole for 5 yrs).
What can I do to combat all these bad side effects while taking Anastrozole for 4 more years???????

Are there other women going thru these, same side effects with Anastrozole etc.?  How do you cope?  Please give me some feedback on this........

Hi,
Indeed aches and pain in the joint are amongst the many side effect reported with the Arimidex (Anastrazole) medication.
Before stopping this drug, please discuss your symptoms with your health care provider or Oncologist so a proper assessment can be made and suggestions to alleviate the discomfort.
Many studies have shown that there is sufficient evidence to support that Arimidex or other similar drugs, reduce significantly the risk of recurrence as well as cancer in the opposite breast, especially if you had an aggressive type of breast cancer.Unfortunately, this medication which is a "necessary evil", does cause a lot of side effects, but the benefits must always be weighed against the possible risks.
Please discuss with your treating doctors, the option of switching aromatase inhibitor therapy to one of the other agents, such as Femara (Letrozole) or Exemestane (Aromasin), to determine whether you would better tolerate these other drugs.
I wish you well and I hope that something can be done to alleviate your discomfort....
