my 2nd mammogram/ultrasound follow-up

I'm 37 & went in to have my 2nd mammogram today, then had a follow up ultrasound.  There is a  suspicious 1.22 cm spot.  The spot is so deep (almost to my chest wall) that I could never feel it.  The radiologist said that he doesn't think that it is cancer (a 1 out of 10 chance), but to be certain, I should have a biopsy.  Luckily, I think, they were able to get me in for a biopsy within 2 hours...so I get to wait for 2-3 days for the results.  I also asked the ultrasound tech what she thought & she said that most cancers that appear on the ultrasound are darker & don't have smooth edges & usually have a shadow beneath them.  My spot is oval in shape & white.  I, of course, continue to worry....does this sound like something to be concerned about?

Hello,

I went through the same thing a couple of weeks ago. My spot was suspicious and very deep almost to my chest wall. The doctor was concerned because my edges were a bit abnormal. Once my Radiologist started taking a few samples for the core biopsy he was encouraged by what he saw and told me it was a very good sign. That comment made the waiting a bit easier.  He was correct and my results came back benign.  Try not to worry, I know this is easier said than done. =)  Best wishes and prayers to you!

Hi,
Experienced radiologists are quite able to identify typically benign breast lesions depending on their characteristics.I don't think the doctor would have told you that the lump looks benign if he thought otherwise.
But as you well know,a biopsy is the only test one should rely on for a correct diagnosis.Your doctor made the right decision to biopsy the lump, just to make sure.Odds are in your favor that this lump is most likely benign in nature because of it's smooth edges.
Please let us know the results of your biopsy. Also if you have any additional question, please keep it on the same thread. This helps to have all your information together so we can better help you.Thank you.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you and hoping that your biopsy results will state benign findings...
Good luck and best wishes!
