cluster calcification

I had some day surgery performed on my leg not quite a week ago. Normal procedure required me to have a chest xray prior to the event. Today I received a call from my family doctor's receptionist telling me that this test came back and there is some cluster calcification noted in by breast (did not know which) and to schedule another mammogram in 6 months. I was confused and asked what test was performed? ( I had a mammogram once about 7-8 years ago) Finally got clarification that this statement came from the chest xray I had done almost a week ago! A chest xray?! I asked her if I should book a mammogram now since this was discovered via chest xray and do I have a problem? Of course she could not give me any other info and I do have a dr's app't in 5 days. I am worrying and anxious. Should I be?? (My mom is a breast cancer survivor 3 years)

Thank you Japdip for responding so quickly to my post. I am 52 yrs. old (you wondered how old I was in your post). I feel a little better after reading it. It seems that we are all constantly dodging bullets and wonder if this is the one that will get us. I'm a RN and deal with these issues on a day to day basis, but when it comes to hitting you personally, all goes out the window including rational thought! What a great site this is...who better to go to for info than those who have actually lived it! And yes, I feel very fortunate that the chest film was done!  Thanks once again...with kind regards.

By all means schedule that mammogram. Calcifications can be seen by almost any type of Imagery ... Regular X-ray included. If your Mom is a breast cancer survivor I would think that yearly Mammograms would be a good idea for you. You don't mention your age and that could make a difference due to the density of the breast tissue but please do have this one that was recommended. Microcalcifications that are seen to be clustered or grouped in certain patterns do raise suspicion but even then a great percentage come back with benign results when biopsied. I think you should consider yourself very fortunate that the Chest film was done.   Regards ....
