Hair Loss / Scalp Acne

6 years after ending Chemo, I have less than half of hair regrowth, plus itchy scalp acne (or whatever anyone wants to call it). I wish everyone luck with getting their hair back. I never expected to not have regrowth. I wear a wig maybe once a week for a couple hours. It's been 5 months since ending prescribed Arimidex for 5 years - and am thinking that may be the cause, but I'm still waiting, Even though doctors look at me and say they hadn't heard it before, the words hair loss did appear on a side-effect list I saw a couple years ago.

You are certainly welcome. I'm just sorry I don't have more to offer.

dontworry_be happy1 had a good point about the  thyroid test, if you haven't already had one.

Please come back and let us know how things are going with you..

Thanks so much. I appreciate all the comments. I tried several of the scalp treatments while on the medication, but now that I'm off that I'll try again
Thanks again!

Hi again,

Just in case the  "scalp acne" you mentrioned might be seborrheic dermatitis, I am sending you a private message with information about that condition.

Hi Barb,
Have you had your thyroid checked lately?  If not... It could be a contributor
To your current issues.

Hi Barb,

I'm so sorry you have had limited hair regrowth following chemo--but very happy to hear that you are 6 years out from your course of chemo!!

As you probably realize from the old thread referenced at the bottom of your post, hair after chemo may be thinner, a different color or texture, may be changed from curly to straight or from straight to curly, or, unfortunately,  in some cases, may not grow back at all. (Shirley, who posted in that thread, has spear-headed action against those who failed to warn patients of this possible side effect of certain types of chemo.)

I'm not sure why certain doctors still deny hair loss as a possible side effect of chemo and the AIs (as well as other side effects like severe bone and/or joint pain, etc.) but that's why a community forum such as this is so valuable--information about various txs is shared among women "who have been there," not just doctors who write prescriptions...

I don't have any practical ideas to help you; just want to know my heart aches for you. And to say that I'm sure you're beautiful anyway, esp. to those who love you and are so happy you are a survivor!

Warm regards,
bluebutterfly
