Lump on right side upper chest near collar bone

Hi, I have a lump on my right side of my chest. (Apx 2inches up from my cleavage and about an inch to the right from the middle) I've been to the dr and have had an ultrasound which was satisfactory. The lump showed up as cartilage and therefore the sonographer could not see behind it to explain what has suddenly pushed it up when the other side is flat. I was therefore sent for a chest X-ray which has also come back clear, with no masses seen and no explanation as to why this lump has appeared. My dr has told me to ignore it but to come back if it grows or becomes painful.  My question is, could it still be cancer if I've had a clear ultrasound and an X-ray? And what would an MRI scan show that the other scans haven't? I'm sure its fine but its on my mind all the time.

Thank you both for your reassurance. I will book to see an Orthopaedic Specialist as suggested. As you say, something has caused it so I do need to find out what (for my own peace of mind more than anything!) thanks again.

I personally would want an answer .... and would go for whatever testing was recommended to get one. All tests "see" things differently as well as "see: different things and this would be true with MRI.  If this was advised I would proceed but if not I would get a second (or third if necessary) opinion. I'm not sure what type of Physicians you have seen but an Orthopaedic Specialist might be another option. Everything has a "reason" for happening and I fee that it's always best to discover that reason. This lump could be something very innocent but I would have to know that too.  Regards ....

Hi,
In my opinion I don’t think this is cancer…. It could be a benign growth of bone tissue on top of existing normal bone that can be quite prominent in slender people,or just a cartilage inflammation as the tests you had, have shown. This can occur in case of trivial injury, over strain,or an inflammatory process.
If the lump persists, enlarges or becomes too painful,I would suggest seeing a Breast Specialist who might order a CT scan or MRI to determine if this lump is of concern or if it needs to be biopsied or even excised.
Best wishes…
