About a month ago my husband noted that I had a "dent" in the underside of my right breast. I has not been there before but we can't say for sure when it first appeared. I called my OB-Gyn and saw him the next day since my mother was diagnosed with invasive BC Jan 08. He did an exam but didn't look at the "dent" and said that I was fine but that I needed to start having yearly mammograms so he gave me orders for that it wasn't a rush thing, I could do it at my leisure. I however, didn't agree so I set up my mammogram for that Friday. They called me back on Monday and told me that there were spots of density on my right side and I needed to come in for a compression mammogram and ultrasound. Did that on Wednesday, the density was still on the mammogram but not visible on the ultrasound (but the tech was horrid! And I'm not sure she could find her fingers had they not been attached!). They tell me right then I need to have a breast MRI. Have the MRI and they tell me I need to have a stereotactic biopsy. When I go in for the biopsy the radiologist tells me that the spot that they are after is very deep and she isn't sure that they are going to be able to reach it. It is also at the very top of my breast not anywhere near where I had the initial reason for going to the Dr, the "dent" which is under my nipple. So during the biopsy she didn't say anything so how do I know that she got the tissue she needed? I know the sterotactic is mammograph led so they had pictures and all but they didn't do pictures and run the biopsy machine simultaneously so how do I know for sure? And she only took one sample. Is that usual? I thought that they usually took several to compare. My mom said they took 5 for her. My biopsy came back benign and that it is just a fibrocystic change but this still doesn't address the reasoning for the dent. I might also add that I am only 30. I don't have any of the radiology reports or pathology reports but I plan on going up to the hospital and getting them. Any thoughts? Either way I go I will go back in 6 months for another mammogram to follow up on the right breast and then again in March for my usual yearly mammogram.
