Please tell me Im paranoid!

hey,
I have had a lump under my arm for about 6 years, its not something that stays all the time, it comes and goes.  This lump starts our hurting REALLY bad like almost makes me cry bad, (I am very tolerant of pain I have had two children and broken both my elbow joints at the same time) so this making me cry was a big deal, it becomes so painful I cant hardly put my arm up in the air and back down for the pain.  Its not an ingrown hair, I already checked, It does get like a head on it I hate to be so awkward but it looks like a nipple, but thats after a week of the squishy lump, after that it becomes a really hard knot and is still rather painful just not as painful, after awhile though it goes away and Im just wondering if this is something that I should get looked at?... or is this something that I can disregard?... just deal with the pain.... THANKS!

Eden

Hi els,

That's good to hear. With no family history of breast cancer or lumps, that could not be a lymph node. With no fever, it could not be an infection. With no other signs or symptoms, we could rule out other diagnosis.
With the pain, you can take any over the counter pain medicine.  And if there is an increase in severity and limitation of  arm movement, you can always visit your doctor for proper evaluation.

Take care and keep us posted.

thank you for your sympothy, no I never really have a fever or at least not that I have noticed or that my husband has noticed, as far as I know there is no family history of breast cancer, not in my immediate family anyways.

That's too bad that you don't have much faith in Dr.s. At times I must admit I question the current Medical Care myself. Still you have to admit that they have been to Medical School and you haven't ... LOL. Here's hoping you'll find an excellent Physician and take care of that problem. Don't suffer ... give the Docs another chance. Regards ....

Hi there,
How are you? What are other symptoms present? Do you have fever or a family history of breast cancer? I'm sorry to hear what you've gone through when you are a teenager. But i think it's best to have it properly evaluated by doctors so that proper management will be given.

Take care and keep us posted.

yes I know it kinda is foolish but I just haven't ever really been that keen on doctor visits, they are always so full of surprises sometimes I would just rather NOT know what the problem is,  as a teenager I had Spinal Meningitis and it took them a week to figure out that was the problem, they thought I was faking, so I guess I dont have much luck with doctors.

If it's that painful I would certainly see a Dr. about it ..... when it's at it's worst if possible. If you are thinking Cancer ... I wouldn't but I certainly wouldn't put up with anything that bothers me that much. I don't think you're paranoid but I do think you're (please forgive me) foolish not to have it treated .....
