Lump from outside breast to aeroplan

I am 40, have had a lump on outside of left breast for 5 months. At first pain was manageable, and first 2 months SEEMED to vary with my cycle. Last 3 months, constant pain. Relatively severe, with new lump (same side) now under areola with stabbing pain upon touch. My mother had a mastectomy 2 years ago.  Mammo booked... 2 months from now.... Any ideas? Any tips for pain? Tylenol, ibuprofen etc ineffective. Thanks!

Great news congratulations!! I am really happy to know that all is fine.
Of course you are NOT crazy! Many women experience breast pain due to a variety of benign causes, such as hormonal imbalance, medication, injury to a muscle, and also exercise and running.
Soccer is fun and I am sure you love it as much as my daughter- in -law does. She also experienced breast pain in the past due to running, but when she started wearing a very good supportive bra with limited stretch and large straps, she now feels a lot better.
With a few preventive measures and proper bras, you may want to continue to reap the health benefits of running while avoiding breast soreness.
Many women actually find breast pain relief, when they cut back on how much caffeine they consume (chocolate, coffee, colas).
Although breast pain is rarely associated with breast cancer,I feel that seeing a Breast Specialist for a follow up,as your doctor advised you, would be the best thing to do.
I wish you good health and hoping that you'll soon be able to play soccer again. :)

My family doctor says ultrasound is clear, and mammo is negative.... Awesome news! However, tells me the pain may be " all in my head".... Easy for him to say since it stops me from running and soccer (my favorite things to do) and if my daughter grazes me it brings me to tears..... Requested a follow up with a specialist, but will be a long time before I get to see him.... All in all though, great news! (outside of me being told I was crazy! Lol)
Thanks for all your support!

UPDATE!
So I got an earlier appt (today) and I have to wait 5-7 days for the results (they send it to my family doctor since he ordered the mammo).... But here's what happened....
After the tech did a breast exam she commented she was "fairly certain it wasn't a "lump per se" but there was "something there that isn't present in the right". So, after the mammo and a few extra pics on the spot she thought was "of concern" I went straight to ultrasound. Ultrasound tech took literally 3 pics (2 stagnant and one that seemed to "move" with my pulse) and radiologist didn't need to see me after she consulted with him regarding the ultrasound pics. So, I am pretty sure it's nothing major! Or they'd have taken way more ultrasound pics I would think! Will let you know in 5-7 days I guess!

You are welcome !
Well, I hope it's not the same as your mom.Because you have a family history of BC,you could be at a higher risk of course, but please remember that having a risk factor, does not mean that you will get the disease. Most women who have one or more breast cancer risk factors never develop the disease, while many women with breast cancer have no apparent risk factors.
So lets hope that things will turn out for the best !
Take care..

Thanks Nylani and Zouzi! I too thought "pain was a good thing" but my mom went to her doc because of a painful lump, she had her operation less than a week later.... I wasn't overly concerned until I started googling! I am sure it's "nothing" but will keep you posted. Thanks again for the replies.

Hi there,
Well I have to admit that the title of your post is hilarious.LOL.
Now, concerning these lumps in your breast,I cannot say with certainty what they could be,because breast lumps always need to be examined and tested for a correct diagnosis. All I can say is that painful lumps are rarely associated with breast cancer.Cysts and Fibroadenoma which very common benign lumps, could cause the pain you are describing.
I think you should call your doctor to prescribe a stronger painkiller, since the ones you have been taking are not effective. Also try to call the radiology Institution and see if they can let in earlier if someone cancels his/her appointment.
I wish you all the best...

Hi there,

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with this pain, 5 months is a long time and to have another lump appear would certainly add to the stress.

There are many causes of lumps in the breast, and most of these are benign so  a booking for a mammogram in 2 months is certainly acceptable. However as your mother had breast cancer and a mastectomy, and the fact that your pain is increasing, and the appearance of a new lump, I would be asking for an urgent referral for a mammogram and ultrasound as soon as possible

Please try not to stress too much (an almost impossible task I know!) but I feel that your pain needs to be properly managed at the very least and a full examination done as soon as possible.

Please let us know how you get on, we all care about what happens to everyone who posts
