mastectomy under twilight

My 82 year old mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer in her remaining breast (she had a mastectomy on one side 10 years ago).  Mom is on oxygen (emphazema), is about 50 pounds overweight, and leads an extremely sedate life.  Her surgeon wants to perform a mastectomy under twilight instead of general anesthesia because of her health concerns.  Does this sound appropriate?  I live in another state and could not accompany her to her surgeon's appoinment to ask questions and mom just accepts whatever doctors tell her.

Thank you for your response. Since I wrote this yesterday, mom's surgery has been set for 12/28 and she has an appointment with the surgeon and anesthesioloist on 12/17. I'm arranging to be there for that so will be able to get any questions answered. I had just never heard of doing a mastectomy under twilight and couldn't find anything about it on the internet . . .

I don't see why not ..... she will not be aware of anything and feel no pain and from what you have stated regarding her general condition it seems this would be the safest way. I also see no reason why you couldn't set up an appointment for a phone call with the Surgeon to answer any concerns you may have about the procedure.  Kindest regards to you both .....
