not sure about biopsy

I am scheduled to have an excisional biopsy on May 1st. This comes after having a stereotactic biopsy that came back as micocalcifications with areas of hyperplasia atypia. Since I don't have a palpable lump, I am confused about what the surgeon could possible remove and how much. When I met with him he talked about dcis and the 100% cure rate and that whatever he removes won't be noticeable because the breast fills itself in. So far I've tried researching on my own and it seems that sometimes surgeons perform biopsies that aren't necessary. Causing deformity and scarring. My stereotactic site was located at 12 o'clock appr. 2 inches above my nipple. Does anyone feel that I should be taking a wait and see ( mammo every six months) approach?

By all means have the biopsy .. since you don't have a palpable lump I doubt that any tissue removed will cause disfigurement. I certainlywouldn't leave the issue unresolved. Not knowing is the worst. Being concerned is normal and we can't help worrying; all the more reason to get an answer. best of luck on Thursday.

Thanks for writing and I am so happy to hear your good news. What happens with you next? Do you have mammos more often? I think I feel worse and more anxious when I'm alone and have more time to think (my boyfriend works Saturdays). I keep telling myself to get out of the house and get my mind off it, but it seems impossible to do. All this stress is wearing me out. I think you were the one who had local w/ sedation. I was told that I had to have general but I managed to convince them otherwise. For some reason the doctor thought I had sleep apnea. He got that from my pr-op interview. I never said that and the more I think about it the more confused I feel. I hope they have their patients straight!

Hi
Just an update.  I had my surgery excisional biopsy this week.  I actually had two areas that they removed in the same breast.  If you recall, I had micro with atypical lobular hyperplasia on core.  Thank godness, mine was benign.  The surgery was not bad and although I have two incisions that are high on the breast it is worth the peace of mind.  My breast shape appears normal.  Pls let me know if you want to talk.  I know this is hard.
