I lost all my hair taking taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin in treatments that ended March 2, 2010. Last week I started going regularly in public with my own hair, still very short and baby-soft, but looking like someone who had a really short cut - not bald anymore. So, that took me 4.5 months to get to this point so far. My hair is darker and maybe thicker than before.
I had been wearing a wig, especially when I sing in public and hats and my favorite, pirate scarves. I must say, getting ready for work with no hair was much quicker than before and I found that, in the scheme of things, hair doesn't matter. There are ways to look nice, but different than you're used to looking and some silver linings. (No hair in your cooking, quicker getting ready for work, more versatile style changes, drive with the windows down and not mess up your hair, and no bad hair days (just no hair days!)
It takes a little getting used to, but I looked at my baldness as my badge of courage and I adjusted pretty quickly. And now that I;m done with the TC treatments, I am amazed at how fast my hair is coming back. I am waiting to see how much curl comes back, how I'll look without bangs for the first time in 35 years, and what color I end up with. Every day is a new adventure!
Good luck with your treatment and recovery. TC was really rough for me and I still have neuropathy and other issues, but it's soooo much better than it was. I hope you're feeling soooo much better soon, too.
i have had chemo twice lost hair both times it was long both times a little past my shoulders it took about 1 1/2 years after the last chemo treatment to get it back to same point be patient it will get there
We need more information regarding your hair loss; when did you finish Chemo? Most times you will get complete regrowth but not immediately and on rare occasions the regrowth will not be complete and often the hair will be different than before Chemo. Regards ....
