I am off to the store this morning and I will try find some , new area here there isnt a Petsmart for miles but I think the local drug store sells it ..anything to buck Tweety up.I am going to check out cat world on the link you sent jade. Thanks for your input Maddie ,,I like to hear others views.so helpful here ...
I have just been watching some funny and interesting videos on u-tube about cats response to catnip.. Have a watch, I am sure you will enjoy.
I loved the response to this. Here in UK catnip grows quite tall because of all the rain. All cats I have owned love it. Yes they do roll in it too, so not good for the plant.
You can buy the dried catnip in pet stores. I'm glad it is not harmful to eat, and no, I didn't know there were human uses for it too!!
Oops, HERE is the site I was on...
http://www.cat-world.com.au/all-about-catnip
Jade has never eaten it, but I googled to be sure it was safe *should* it be eaten, and it is. Here is the site I was on if you'd like to read up on catnip. Pretty interesting as I didn't know there were human uses for it. Says it can be used for tummy issues, headaches and insomnia to name a few.
I don't sleep well at all either Margy. Maybe we need to eat some catnip!!! Lol
You know jade I wondered if I could rent one for a few days I was going to ask, dont know about fostering, would be longer, Tweety may like a cat in the family I am only a bit concerned as in the past she has been strange and not social with other cats ..I tried to take a male cat in once she was so awful and depressed .So if I do a fixed female would be better I guess Sillygirl .I will get her a catnip toy and see if shes likes it, they just like the smell dont they but not eat it ..?
I received a package of nip from PetMeds when I ordered the Frontline. Sprinkled some on Jade's scratching post and she went insane! Lol.
SG, I wonder if Diego didn't care for it due to the strength? Might of been a weak batch...
The few times Diego leaps about like a kitten is when his freshly filled catnip mouse is tossed on the rug! He adores it...but the catnip sprinkled on his scratch box is just ho hum.
Would love to grow catnip...but with so many stray cats about think it could be a nuisance.
You can buy catnip at Petco or Petsmart. Also, Marg, they sell toys with catnip inside. I buy a pack of 9 little mousies for Jade; very inexpensive, and she loves them. We did grow some catnip one year but darn CATS (lol) rolled all over and destroyed the plant long before it could mature.
Mishach is right, not all cats like catnip.
Margy, I was thinking about you wanting to *possibly* adopt another kitty for Tweety. You might consider fostering a kitty to see if Tweety will accept and get along?
Before you start growing catnip yourself, buy a little pouch and see, how Tweety reacts to it. Many cats don't like catnip and just walk away from it. Other ones get very aggressive - a friend's cat started to bully her other felines, wanted to bite the "hand that offered it". It was awful for the whole family.
Let me know, how it turned out. Good luck !
you know Maddie I have never tried catnip for Tweety what is the best way of letting them have some ? it wont grow here its desert, but maybe I can buy it ..
