Foofy wont take her medicine

When I took Foofy to the vet last year for her shots and check up she had a runny nose and one eye that was watering.  The vet said she must be allergic to something.  I should try and figure out what triggers it and try to keep her away from it.  I have been on treatment for Hep C for almost a year now.  And I could hardly take care of myself, much less go hunting for an allergen.  But her nose and eye would clear up periodically and we were good.  She sleeps with me and she likes to get up close to my neck where I put Vicks Vaporub on.  But by the time we went again for shots this time, Foofys nose was worse and the eye was watering again.  The vet said she may have gotten a secondary infection from the allergy problem.  So he gave me an antibiotic for her.  Its a liquid.  And my husband and I have tried everything to get it in her but its impossible. We even wrapped her in a blanket (which she doesnt mind) so we couldnt be scratched but she will bite any hand that comes near her mouth with the medicine.  I tried putting it in food but she wouldnt eat it.  I tried putting it in milk but that only worked one time.  After that she wouldnt touch it.  Any suggestions?  Can the vet give her shots?  I love her so much.  We just came home from a weekend away and she seems worse.  I took her in the bathroom with me and ran some hot water in hopes of getting the steam to help her.  But I guess I will call the vet tomorrow.  She is such a special baby to me.  Im worried sick about her.  We are going to bed with our Vicks now.  Thanks for listening

the steamy room is actually a very good treatment for cats too, should have mentioned that....but you thought of it yourself, good on you.

yes be sure she doesn't lick the vicks...the eucalyptus isn't good for cats...I'm not sure abt just inhaling it(?) I was just thinking it maybe whats making her eye water...but thats all part of the URI also so hard to say...

i just hope you both continue to improve, keep us updated:)

Thank you for the advise.  I will try the l-lysine powder.  I may have to have the vet tech show me how to give her the medicine.  She is actually a member of our church.  I know that human and cat anatomy are completely different so I am careful not to give her any kind of human medicine. But last night she seemed so stuffed up, that I did what I would do with my own child. I took her in the bathroom and ran hot water until we got some steam in the room.  It seemed to help.  Im not sure that the Vicks is causing the problem though because I put it on last night and she snuggled up to me and seemed to feel better.  She tried to lick it off of my neck but I wouldnt let her because I know that would be bad.  Anyway she is better today and she has been very cuddly.  Now she is off playing with a toy mouse.  But the other reason that I wonder if the Vicks is ok for her to breathe is because she was worse after I had been gone for two nights.  So she wasnt around it when she got worse. Of course, I want to believe that she got worse because her mom wasnt here to comfort her. LOL I will ask the vet about the Vicks too. I am still recovering and didnt get much done today.  Anyway thanks for the advise.  I will check out the powder  online tomorrow.  I didnt realize that it is after 2 am now.

aww poor little foofy, I have a few ideas for you......NEVER get the antibiotic injection called convenia these can be very harmful and I can send you lots of thse reports no matter what the Vet may tell you to the contrary. Just hold kitty and gently put the dropper in the back side of her lips near the location of her back molars you only have to insert the dropper slightly than squirt slowly so she swallows and she will swallow....never put any liquids of any kind in the front part of the mouth.
Most cats won't accept any medications in their food or water, if you need to get one of the Vet techs to show you how to give it to her.

cat you stop using the Vicks? that may well be whats causing alot of her symptoms esp since she cuddles close to the area your wearing it.

however it sounds much more like a URI...upper respiratory infection, doesn't sound llike an allergy to me, most allergy with cats will affect their skin or give them asthma type symptoms.

I also strongly recommend you buy a product called L-lysine, this is an amino acid to help strengthen her immune system both to help clear the URI and also help with prevention in the future. The Vet SHOULD have told you to get this the first time before it got worse...!!!!
They usually sell a form of it through the clinics, however you can buy one that is much cheaper and purer from a human health food store or vitamin supply.
It comes in a powder form and can be mixed with the food, no smell so cats don't seem to have a problem taking it. I will give you the brands recommended for cats...its must be one of these brands b/c they have no additives such as soy, corn, sugar, salt, preservatives etc....and that important. here are the brands and if you can't find them locally just click on the link below, its where I buy my products a place called iherb in california, shipping is only $4 and the powder is $6.50...well worth the price, to help prevent further Vet bills.

NOW FOODS- l-lysine powder
CARLSON LABS -l-lysine powder
SOURCE NATURALS- l-lysine powder

start with 500mg the first week than 250 mg afterwards. can do initial dose with a bit less just to be sure she will accept it...than build up. good luck♥

copy and paste this for iherb site.
