hairball remedy for finicky cat

Can anyone suggest a hairball remedy bor my finicky Butters? Even though he's a short hair and I brush him daily he's plagued with hairballs worse than my other 2. Unfortunately he hates the hairball remedies in a tube I've tried whether it's the malt or salmon flavor, I've read some cats like Vaseline but he shakes his imperial paw at that too, (he really does that, if he doesn't like something he shakes his paw at it as if to say in a royal tone "take it away!") I feel bad for him. The only feed he'll eat is indoor formula, not hairball formula. Any help? He does LOVE to be brushed so I do that as much as possible.

I've heard that mineral oil is the base ingredient for like 99% of those cat hair remedy gels. I say just put a little blob on his paw weather he likes it or not it'll be ingested while he licks it clean.

That sounds like the simplest yet! That should do the trick and be the right price too with no measuring, best of all worlds!! Thanks!! Hopefully he won't catch on and recognise the bottle too quickly and start running from me...he can get a little slappy when he feels like it!

You're in a real predicament.....hmmmm, maybe you could mix the food half and half or change to another hairball formula food.  Let him know YOU know what's best for him. Either season it with a little wet food or just give him nothing other than the formula that will help with the hairball problem. You are the boss, after all and he will not starve.  You're doing it for his own good.  I don't think vasoline would be a good option.  i wonder if a little teaspoon of olive oil would hurt. Or maybe a little cod-liver-oil..yummy :)

All of my cats have always loved the petromalt gel and its been very effective.  Mine don't care much for the hair ball treats and even when they do eat them, it does seem to do anything.  Can you disguise the petromalt by mixing it with his food?
