Bald spot forming on back of indoor cat

My 3 year old cat has eaten a bald spot by the base of his tail. It is the size of a quarter. I looked this morning and a small rust sized spider like creature ran away from the bald spot? What could it be? He is an indoor cat.

if he has fleas you will need to get a flea product from your Vet(not from stores) and treat them properly with more than shampoo.
also do not give flax seed oil to cats.......what he needs is omega 3 fish oils...they come in a capsule, pierce the capsule and squirt in his mouth or if he will eat it ok add it too his food....krill oil or salmon oil omega 3's are the best....get ones without additives.
good luck

Thank you so much. I realized when Iooked at the photos, that my cat's skin is not inflamed. I have been giving him flax seed oil and a flea shampoo. The bald spot is no longer getting bigger and some hair is starting to grow. I will let you know if he keeps getting better.

Thanks so much for the tip Opus88. Mange just might be the problem. My friend looked at the bald spot last night and asked if I had changed his diet, and I recently did. I will try going back to his previous food as well. With appreciation.
