Cat so terrified, can't get in cage for vet trip

I have a sweet, DARLING cat about 10 years old.  Her name is Zoe.  She was extremely feral when we caught her in a trap.  We were toing to get her spayed and then release her.  But she was injured.  She had either been kicked real hard or thrown out of a moving car.  On the right side of her face and head she had like "road rash" and her eye was also injured.  She lost sight in that eye, but has turned into the most beautiful long haired, snow white cat.  She has only really learned to trust me, and even then she has her days when she doesn't.  The last time she needed a trip to the vet, it was awful for both of us.  She was so scared that she peed on herself and practically just stroked out.  I do not want to go through that again.  Do you know if vets ever give out a tranquilizer that will make a cat really sleepy so that I could get her in a cage???

that seems pretty insensitive comment from a Vet...when did her injury happen? and IS she eating, drinking and breathing alright?
How did they instruct you on using benadryl?.....how much? this med has to be given at a low dose, I have only read about using in the baby liquid form and giving a small amount(forget how much) via syringe...of course she wouldn't eat it in her food, that must have a terrible taste.
I will try and find some time to research this, just incase you do need to take her in...keep us posted on how she is, I'm so happy she has a loving/caring home now...♥

Thanks so much for your caring advice about my sweet scared kitty cat.  We've had her for so long, and my mother, my daughter and my father (when he was alive) did everything he could to settle her down so that he could just reach out and pet her.  They never reached that special time.  I feel very honored that she trusts me the most.  I just love her so much.
Well....I called the vet and they said that they would not give me a tranquilizer and to use Benadryl.  She would not eat the benadryl crushed up into her food.  So we stand just where we were.  They said that as long as the sneezing is "clear and she can breath alright and eat, etc. that she will be fine.  I would really feel better if they saw her, but I guess they don't feel that way.................

As Opus and Jade told you, your vet certanly can prescribe something safe for the time she needs of.
But I think you should start her trainning for accepting the carrier in the future.Just keep the stuff in a place near her, always with doors open, put treats or favorite food inside, keep a distance enough for her to take courage to enter it, and praise her the day she really did.
It can take some time to happen and some more til the moment you would be able to close the door and she not panic - but I'm sure you will, someday... Girl just need time to trust you the way just they are able to do.
Big hug!

Hi Beth, your vet can and will give you a something to calm Zoe so you can get her to the vet.  Just give them a call.  Bless you for taking her in and paying what I suspect was a pretty penny to treat her and get her well.  I'm so sorry she lost sight in that eye.  She sounds just gorgeous!  Would love to see a picture : )
