Cat Pooping Outside of Box

My cat started occasionally pooping out of his litter box about 3 years ago. We had recently moved and now had roommates so I chopped it up to stress or simply being mad at me. After living there for about 8 months we moved to a new place with just one roommate and he I don’t really remember him pooping outside of his box. Just over a year ago we moved into our own house. He has the place to himself and his own litter box, however his pooping has gotten out of control. He use to poop on the bathroom mat so I closed the door, then on the rug in the room which I have had to since trash, Now he has taken to not only pooping but peeing on my bed. I thought it might be because he is mad at me (I am gone 2 nights a week) But he is still pooing outside his litter box when I am here. Yesterday I got him a fresh new litter box and new litter, slept on the couch with him (since the bed has baking soda on pee stains) he went to the bedroom and pooped on my bed during the night. He does not poop just anywhere but instead makes a point to poop on my bed. Although, he will usually pee in his litter box

He's not mad at you.  People would poop in the wrong place out of anger, kitties are not like us!  I agree with the above that it could be that he is in pain.  He could also dislike the box you are using, the location of the box, or the type of litter.  Some cats hate covered litter boxes, some will only use clay litter, etc.  Look back over the years, did you change the type of box or type of litter?

Try putting more boxes out and, even if they are not ideal locations, place them near where he is pooping (so maybe one beside or under your bed).  You might get a better idea of why he is doing it if you give him more options.

Good luck, and know your little fella really isn't mad, he just can't communicate to you what the problem is!

Oh geez sorry for all the mess.....I have one that occasionally gives me gifts too:(
This issue is either medical or behavioural....has he been checked out? Get yr Vet top especially check for urinary tract crystals since he is a male this is very common, and cats will pee and even poop inappropriate when they are having PAIN in those areas. They are trying to tell us it hurts.
I could send you some links later when my computer is hooked up again, unfortunately can't frm my iPad.
Also all the areas he has soiled will need to be cleaned wth an enzyme pet door remover not just baking soda.
If everything checks out medically and it ends up being behavioural I will tell you of an excellent product tht has worked well for mine, but first I urge you to get him some tests at your Vets....hang in there momma
