Cat Urinating on Furniture

Three months ago my 7 year old rescue cat started urinating on the furniture.  She did this about a year and a half ago and then we worked with her and she stopped.  She is now doing it again.  My husband thinks she is jealous of our other cat and me because she goes where I have been playing with the other cat.  She has peed on the sofa, chair and a huge pillow in the living room; on the sofa in the family room and on my side of the bed.  Last night she did it on the sofa while I was sitting there with the other cat.  My husband is saying she will have to go but I cannot do this.  I keep her in the spare room downstairs and she does fine.  Always uses litter box so I do not think it is medical problem.  Any suggestions?  I have bought solutions to spray on the furniture.  I have bought Feliway spray and sprayed the furniture and also have a diffuser.  I am desperate.

you are so right never use antib's unless absolutely sure there is an infection present....
by meds I was referring more to an anti-anxiety med which sometimes helps but I sure hate to use those too as it can drastically change their personality.

I have never heard of tinkle tonic...beware many of the concoctions Vets sell are made with alcohol...they 'should' know better.
there is a product called Rescue Remedy by Baush. to help calm them. there is also one avail thru your Vet or Amazon called FELIWAY...its also a calming agent, safe and sometimes effective, comes in a room spray or diffuser.

Just copy and paste the link I gave you in my last post, that will take you to where I buy the Slippery Elm Bark. a distributor called iherb.com

I am not giving up on her.  She is my baby!!!  I got a product called Tinkle Tonic from my vet (she is a great believer in holistic meds).  I started her on those today.  Where did you get the Slippery Elm Bark?  I don't want to use an antibiotic unless I have to.  Especially when I am not 100% sure it is medical.

can be the most frustrating problem there is for all us kitty parents.....good you got the urinalysis, did they tell you she had crystals? or her PH was high? can be present w/o an infection.
also any suspected bowel problems? such as IBD? if there is pain in bowels they will also pee &/or poop indiscriminately to tell us it hurts...
does she have constipation or diarrhea?
if all this checks out negative than it has to be behavioral...many Vets say there is no such thing as behavioral its always a medical problem...hmmm.
I am very against medicating, but the alternative of getting rid of the offending kitty is worse IMO....have you discused this with your Vet? have you tried homeopathy? I'm using some and can't say they've been 100% sucessful but having some improvements.
also you give a product call Slippery Elm Bark, this helps to calm the mucosa lining of the bladder and bowel...its an excellent and safe product and one I use all the time..I'll give you the link, if you decide to order let me knw and I'll give you the mixing instructions and dosages....lets not give up yet ok...♥

Thank you for your suggestions.  Strangely enough, she is the new cat.  I have had my Siamese for 4 years and we rescued her about 2 years ago.  I play with both of them equally.  Everytime I sit down, they are both on my lap.  I feel like I have kitty cat coats!  They play together great.  My Siamese crys all the time when she is in the spare room.  I feel really sorry for her.  He even pooped on the bathroom rug (we suspect to get even with us for putting her up - we solved this by taking up the rug in the bathroom!).

Thanks so much for your help.  I am at my wit's end.  We have taken her to the vet and there is no infection.  She has a wet food/dry food mixture diet.  I have cleaned the furniture with an enzyme pet urine remover that I got at the pet store.  And we have 3 litter boxes for the two cats.  I am going out today and getting one of those vinyl carpet runners.  Someone suggested putting it on the furniture upside down (with the spikes up) would keep her off the furniture.

i think your husband is right its a jealousy issue.  if it was a medical issue when she was in the spare bedroom separated then she would have the same issue there also.  my suggestion is to make sure that she knows that the new cat is an addition to the family not a replacement.  first you have to make sure that you have one on one time with her.  second every time you play with the new cat play with her also and encourage them to play with eachother.  tell your husband that things will get better it will just have to take time and patience.  i agree with multiple litter boxes also.  that way they have their own space to go potty.

also are both cats fixed?

yeah its a frustrating problem and the most common reason people give up a cat to a shelter...pass on their problems and deem a cat unadoptable.

I have one boy with this problem, not consistently just occasionally....I have a few ideas for you too...

first of all you have to rule out medical issues, if a kitty has a bladder infection OR crystals in their urine than its very painful for them when they pee..and they associate the pain with the litter box..therefore they seek out 'soft' places to pee. its a simple urine C&S and PH test to make sure,
an antibiotic will be given only IF there is an infection.
If its the PH and crystals than you will HAVE TO FEED A WET FOOD DIET...with plenty of water...dry foods are the major cause of this happening.

secondly are you cleaning the area's she pee's on with an enzyme pet urine remover? avail at pet stores not grocery stores? I use a product called URINE OFF, but there are others....
products such as vinegar or ammonia will only remove the scent from our noses and NOT from the sensitive noses of cats and if they can detect any scent they will continue to use the same spot.

thirdly do you have multiple litter boxes? the rule of thumb is one per cat PLUS one extra.

so take her to a Vet and get some real good cleaner. if those don't lead to some resolutions I have other suggestions but lets start with those ok....good luck♥
