Cat will poop next to the litter box 90% of the time

I have a 4 yr old Pixie Bob.  She has never undergone any surgeries except for having her spayed early on.  Last year we moved from Alaska to Texas.  3 months later I gave birth to our 1st child.  Prior to our move, she used the litter box just fine, the same one we've had since we brought her home as a kitten.  (Breeze system)  Once we arrived in TX, she stopped pooping in her box.  I have it near the washer & dryer, same as I had it in Alaska.
I can't block off the area, and am not too sure about covering the floor with anything to discourage pooping as this may make her avoid the box entirely.  She also chews on plastic bags, so that's out.  (she's been checked, no parasites)
I'm very confused...1 our of 10 times she'll poop in the box.  Randomly.  Sometimes 2x in a row!  It's fairly inconsistent...new litter, new pee pad, freshly washed box seems to make no difference.  I'm unwilling to try a new litter system as she's polydactal and would track horribly.
Is there any advice, please, to retraining her?!

addendum-my cat Bob chews plastic, too-we have to be vigilant about anything plastic, particularly window envelopes.

First of all-YOU HAVE A PIXIE BOB?????? I'm so exicited-I've been wanting one of these-I was just asking about this breed in a post just a few days ago-is she wonderful??
Any change in bathroom habits usually will warrant a trip to the vet to rule out any infections. I'm sure you made sure the pan is up to par?  My Butters will poop next to pan but only if it's too full for his liking (like when i've had to work a 12 hour shift and couldn't get to it for him.
Good luck w/your kitty and her health and please let me know everything you can about your 'Bob-I really want one of these and they look so charming!! Let us know how you make out!!

hi and welcome to our site...usually when cats change their habits its b/c something is wrong, sometimes its a change in litter but since that hasn't happened it can also be a sign that she is trying to tell you something 'hurts' when I go...this can be a bowel problem, is she constipated? Are her anal glands impacted?

OR it can also be a urinary tract problem...they don't associate bowel pain from urinary tract pain. Has she been checked for a UTI(urinary tract infection)?

OR more commonly crystals in the bladder, FLUTD these cause alot of discomfort when passing urine....is she on a dry diet????
crystals if present can form and block the passage of urine than its an emergency.

I would strongly suggest you have her checked for all these conditions b/c she is telling you something isn't right with me mommy.....

p.s. another member on here is wanting info on Pixie-Bob cats...can you do a write up on this breed for her info????? would be appreciated.just post it as you would a question.thanks.
hope this has helped. keep us posted...
