A late comment; but, I do bathe my cats.  No more than twice a year.  I have four cats two of which are black.  One of the black cats will get dandruff very bad if I don't bathe him.  I use a good, vet approved cat shampoo and conditioner.  I rinse him very, very well.  He shines for months after a good bath.

please tell me exactly what your giving kitty????
and please DON''T be 'spooning' anything into a cats mouth, this can be easily inhaled into his lungs causing him to aspirate and die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anything liquid given by mouth HAS to be slowly administered by a dropper and NOT a spoon...............please be very careful if not done properly this is very DANGEROUS to kitty. and how much are you giving???????

Thank you all for your suggestions, I have brought him some oil which he won't eat from his food so having to spoon it to him. Good job he loves us to pick him :)

I would never recommend giving a cat a bath this will only dry out the natural skin oils even more, I too have a totally black cat and he has no white flaking. dry skin would indeed be more noticeable in their black hair.
using even a pet shampoo spray would dry out their skin and leave 'white flakes' as a residue......if you want to use anything use a conditioning spray to help with the dryness.
brushing is very good to help with the conditioning and stimulation of natural oils..

Dandruff is common in cats of many coat colors, but very noticeable in black cats. My now deceased black longhair had dandruff at times, and I treated that with brushing/combing, which he was thrilled with, and a high-quality diet, which he was less thrilled with. A bit of flax oil on his food seemed to help, as did a "pet shampoo spray" I found in a pet store, which moisturized his fur and skin without the hassle of giving him a bath.

kitty needs some Omega3 fatty acids in her diet.....its great for conditioning the skin.
this can be added to her food. what is she on for a diet? if its dry I would highly recommend switching to can food with no grains...:)

I have a cat that gets it and I just brush her and it seems to help a lot.
