Hi, there. Yes, it could certainly be poisoning so I would watch him carefully. Could also be some kind of dental problem. Can you open his mouth to check for a broken tooth, just anything foreign? How do his gums look? I did some research and it could also be from a bee sting. Is kitty an outdoor cat? Below are some things to consider, most of which I just said. Rabies is also a far reaching consideration.
Examples of problems in the mouth are:
»Dental disease (broken, decayed, or abscessed teeth)
»Gum disease (periodontal disease, stomatitis)
»Oral foreign body (fish hook, fish bone, string wrapped around tongue, stick)
»Oral mass (eosinophilic granuloma, tumor)
»Oral ulcer or laceration
»Salivary gland cyst
»Bee stings
Hi,ok lets see...I tried looking in his mouth as much as i could and it seemed fine, and then he is indoor only cat so no bees...what else...No oral mass...Gums seem ok...I dont even know...he looks totally fine and is acting completely normal...I dont know...I read online that cats cant consume too much liver or they get toxic poisoning from too much vitamin A,and the food i give him is liver flavored...I dont know if that could be it...I already got rid of that food...Um...I dont know though,he doesnt JUST eat the liver flavor, and he has been having it for over a year now so it seems unlikely...He isnt drooling quite as much any more...I dont knwo :(...as a student its hard to afford a vet,but Im gonna have the money to take him monday if he doesnt get better...
That he is still eating normally is a good sign. I doubt it is the liver flavored food. Since that isn't the only flavor he eats and most likely it doesn't have that much actual liver, it is highly unlikely he is getting too much Vit A. It would take a huge amount to cause toxicity. More likely it is a dental issue or stomatitis. That is an infection or inflamation that can be in the back of his mouth or throat where it would be more difficult to notice. As long as he is eating well and behaving normally, I think he will be ok until you can get him to the vet tomorrow,
Well i just got home from work...He is barely drooling now and is as active as usual...Ate normally in the morning....I dont know,i will try my best to get him in to the vet tomorrow and see whats up...I might have to post pone it till mid week...I know it is horrible but im not sure if i will get off work early enough tomorrow...
Well, that's good the drooling has lightened up. Since it's still happening though, would be best to have him checked to be on the safe side. He could be in pain from an infected tooth or other issue as Nancy suggested and I know you'd want that resolved. We just sleep better when we know our babies are okay. And l commend you for trying to check his mouth - that's not at easy as the Vet makes it look, lol...
Good luck and hope your boy is okay. Please let us know.
Oh my goodness i know...He bathes and he lets me clean his ears and he lets me cut his nails...But when it came to his mouth it was the worst....Hahaha...Well my goal is to get him to the vet by wednesday for sure...I thought i would be able to go tomorrow but i have to cover a shift...
Hi.. we have a cat that has drooled all his life. Some cats are missing those front incisors , and some just naturally have a drool we have found. All though not consistently. At times it seems to be allergies also. But, lately due the fact we live in the South, we have a serious ant problem. Sam lives inside. But, due to his drooling for some reason the ants are drawn to him. Where ever he lays the ants find him.. it has gotten to a point to where his favorite chair has had to have bowls of water with the legs of the chair in them just to keep the ants off of him.. just recently I was at a friends house the other day , and their cat is a drools also, and the ants were all over this cat.. they have to brush the cat constantly to keep the ants off of them.. it's beginning to become a real pest, cause with Sam in the house, the ants find their way.. and they cover quickly. Amazing how quickly they can locate Sam... anyone else ever seen this happen?
