I'm sure they will be best buddies in no time. They play, so I'm assuming Abby is just letting the kitten know what is, and what isn't allowed. Abby likes being chased. He will not chase the kitten. He invites the kitten to chase him lol. They're doing that right now. As time passes, the hissing and growling lessen, so I'm not worried about it at all.
Please, MJ, upload a vid on youtube and let us know when it is up. It is funny when a cat stares at the other cat who is stealing food from him with a confused or frustrated look lol.
I guess I would growl too if there was a kitten nipping at my tail, lol. Give it some time and they probably will be best of friends (or at least coexist). We have to feed Waldo and Sahib in separate rooms.
If left to their own divices, Waldo will take his paw and move Sahib's food bowl right from under him and start munching. Sahib just sort of looks up with a really puzzled, confused look like, "What The....?"
I'm tempted to set it up so I can make a video to upload to you-tube some day just because it looks cute...
Thank you everybody. The kitten is doing wonderful. I'm still monitoring him (behavior, attitude, how many times he uses the box, stool texture {ew}, urine) and so far so good. He had loose stool at the shelter. Then -and I think a change in diet caused this- yesterday he did not poo at all. This morning he went in the box, did his business and the stool is formed and healthy. So, I do believe this cat is also sensible to grains and should be kept away from it. He loves his diet. I am now feeding them raw ground rabbit with the bones, head, liver and heart. I am adding probiotics and enzymes to avoid hair loss, balance the diet out even more, and because cats who has suffered IBD need them.
There is still some growling and hissing. Both of them growl and hiss but the kitten is very playful. He loves to bite Abby's tail. The kitten displays dominant behavior during feeding time. He will NOT eat from his bowl. He'd rather eat from Abby's to then start growling. Abby just looks at him like 'What is your problem...freak!!!'
Sarah - what do you mean Teabag is a floozie? lol She and Abby have been sending each other messages and pictures = ) Now she and Laverne can go after Dillan too.
Is there a picture of him? I'll take a look.
I tuned in late. That's great news! I like to hear stories like this where an animal gets a second chance of life. I'm glad to hear he has a shot of life and being loved now.
Oh he is a beautiful kitty!!!!!!
He is one lucky kitty..........
Yeah, I think it's best to do the front only so they can still scratch the furniture with the back lol. My cat has made me put two beach towels on top of my love seat so it can last longer lol
I just called the shelter. Dillan is still not neutered. Next time I call I'll yell at them.
Well, he was found with diarrhea, hookworms, fleas (They got rid of it with Frontline), and a big adult cat bite in the neck. He still has a scab in the neck. Now I'm waiting for hair to grow back in that area. The kitty is very, very skinny. He looks a bit malnourished, and I understand. Ever since he got to the shelter he's been on meds both oral and external, and some meds cause lack of appetite. I feel very sorry for that little guy. He has had a rough start. Who on earth would abandon such lovely tiny creature?
Now I'll work my magic to make him fat and big lol.
S is just declawed in the front paws too....I cant wait to see pics of the new baby!!!!
I'm picking him up today. I have decided I will not declaw in all four paws but only the front claws, just like Abby. I'll call the shelter today to check on him and how the surgery (sterilization) went. I will bring more updates later on. Gotta pick him up at 3:00 pm.
Is Abby understanding the issues before him?? I remember talking to the beagle before Snickers arrived and i would tell her now we have to be nice to kitty and love him too. I told her the good Lord gave me 2 hands so i could pet them both and i would always love her no matter what!!!! I wonder how nuts she thought i was or anyone else who heard me talking to her!!!!!
UPDATES???
Oh Sara.....yes, I do know where this is going. It's like the cats are recruiting for the feline military. I know.
LW comes up with unique names, so I would trust that she could give me some ideas although she believes animals name themselves. So, we shall see :)
Well this is great news.....Now we need an announcement introducing the young man to the world......Lonewolf should be able to come up with a name or 2!!!!!
S is getting him a cell phone for a gift..........you do know where this is going!!!
Girls, I got news!!
Get this, I adopted the kitten. It is actually a Maine Coon Mix, not a purebred, but it is very, very cute. It isn't fixed so I could not bring him home today. They will get him neutered, vaccinated and all, and I can pick him up on Friday. You noticed that? HIM....Abby is going to have a brother. We went to the shelter and there he was. He is playful. Purring all the time. We named him.......ehem.......Dillan. That's the name of my other cat, Dillan. I will post pictures next week, after I get him declawed and give him a bath so my husband doesn't get allergies. I have made an appointment for Monday to have him declawed, all four paws this time, and we're supposed to pick him up on Wednesday.
Dillan is 3 months old......and so, so adorable :)
I will keep him in a room for a few days with his own box and food bowl, and let them sniff each other through the threashold. He has the perfect age to already be on the BARF diet and so he will also be on this diet. We'll see about Abby. I will give him extra attention when the kitten gets home, so he doesn't get too jealous...because I KNOW he'll be stressing (Abby), and losing ridiculous amounts of hair all over the house.
If any of you think of any other names...we still have time to change it!!!!!
If there is anything else I should know, let me know. I know there will be hissing, batting, maybe biting etc. But I will let them figure tings out and will not interfere unless it gets too violent. I hope this doesn't make my Abby stress too much that he doesn't even want to be in the house. Hopefully, he will also NOT have diarrhea off of pure stress. I am sort of worried about that.
My husband isn't too happy. He thinks I want to replace his boy (Abby). He really isn't thrilled, but I'm sure he'll love the kitten...I mean..it's just a tiny thing this little fella :)
Have you noticed that we can never stay on track here!!!!!!! LOL
I thought Teabag had her eye on S.......she is a floozie!!!!!! LOL
Actually, Skunkie won't be too thrilled either. She loves teaching the younger men a thing or two! LOL
Teabag is going to be SO angry if it's a female. She's had her eye on Abby for awhile = (
We want pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is sooooo cool! I knew you'd break down and get another kitty! Abby will love having a buddy to play with! Is it a male or female?
