My cat sneezes alot, I don't know about the other symptoms. but he's appetite hasn't changed.
Rocky, it does indeed sound like some major dental problems, and I think that trying to brush his teeth at this point will do more stress than good. Most likely, kitty has gingivitis and will need a good cleaning and extractions. I zeroed in on your observation of the odor coming from the top of his head...you might bring up crytocococcosis to your Vet. This is a fungal infection obtained from inhaling bird dropping. All of the above, my cat had when we first got her and to say she *smelled*, both breath and otherwise, was an understatement. So there were several things going on. Maybe you've had him dewormed, but if not, something else to add to the list of your boys undesirable smell. I assure you though, all this can be taken care of.
Here is a quick synopsis of Cryptocococcosis (forgive the spelling of the fungas disease, it's always different...

Cryptococcosis in Cats - Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
Cryptococcosis is a common infectious disease caused by the yeast-like fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. This fungus is widespread in the environment & cats (humans, dogs & other animals can also become infected) acquire it by inhaling spores. It is much more common in cats than dogs.
The organism is worldwide in distribution & is commonly found areas contaminated with bird (especially pigeon) droppings, although many infected cats have no known contact with pigeon droppings.
Immunocompromised cats such as those infected with FeLV or FIV are especially vulnerable to infections such as cryptococcosis.
Infected cats do not pose a risk to humans. Infection is acquired by inhalation of the fungus & not spread from animals or humans.
Once inhaled, the organism typically colonises in the upper respiratory tract (usually the nasal passages).
What are the symptoms of cryptococcosis in cats?
Common symptoms of cryptococcosis include;
* Sneezing & snuffling
* Raspy breathing
* Nasal discharge;
**** Hard, nodular skin swellings, most often over the bridge of the nose***
**** Skin lesions on the head****
* Swollen lymph nodes
* Lethargy
* Loss of appetite
Other symptoms may be present depending on what organ systems are involved. These may include;
* Neurologic abnormalities (seizures, incoordination, behavioral changes)
* Eye disorders (chorioretinitis; inflammation of the choroid and retina of the eye)
Thanks. and I know he can't have human toothpaste. sorry. I forgot to put pet toothpaste. I ordered cat toothpaste and a toothbrush online. from a pet store website. and I'll update you. :)
good for you and your dad...this kitty really does need to have a good exam by a Vet to see if he has tooth decay or find out what else could be wrong. whatever you do DON'T USE toothpaste...has to be a special pet toothpaste without fluoride and other stuff..not human ones.
I don't know what you could do to make him feel better DON'T give him any medications or anything, the Vet has to prescribe one if its needed.
I hope you will be able to get your kitty there real soon and find out what is wrong. please update us when you do okay...good luck
he was born march 3. 2011. I told my dad. he's going to call a vet.
but he's never had teeth cleaning or anything. I wanted to get him a tooth bush and toothpaste but we didn't have money. he has bad breathe too. but the top of his head smells too. could there be anything around the house that I could use to help him feel a little bit better while he waits for the vet?
hi Rocky.....how old is Simba?
