Hissy Hello's

We just got a beautiful shaded silver persian a couple of days ago. We live in Canada, boutght her in the states, and drove down to Bellingham to pick her up. The whole ride home, she slept in my jacket, and loved to be cuddled, but is very sketchy when she hears any noises. once we finally got home I noticed that she constantly hisses at EVERYTHING! I thought at first it was because she was in a strange place and wasn't sure of us, but I have spent a lot of time with her, and she now will come out of her kennel, or from under the bed when she hears me, but still greats me with a couple of hisses.  She is 4 months old and was raised with other cats, and a german shepard. The hissing seams more like her greating us, and makes her look like she has gone mad because she will be walking toward us as she is hissing. it is kind of cute and funny now, but I am worried what it will be like when she gets older, I have small children.  Why does she do this, and How do I get her to stop?

One of my cats will walk through the room, and if something is irritating to her (such as the presence of one of our other cats, who she has lived with for 12 years) she will just hiss as she walks by.  It's a vocalization for her.  But maybe a kitten will grow out of it.

I'd try to keep the kids quiet and calm around her.  Cats do not always love little kids, they (the kids) are just too unpredictable.

sounds like a beautiful kitty....I wouldn't be worried, kitty is going to take a bit of adjustment time, a new home and parents is traumatic to a baby. I think she is really just plain afraid right now...give her lots of space and love.
persians for the most part(not all) don't really like to be handled like alot of the other breeds....treat her with love, care and GENTLENESS....your young children need to be taught this... and she will get more comfortable with all the new changes in her life.
keep us updated please.
