My cat's tail hurts when I pick it up? He'll cry when I move it around.

He also is walking a little strange. When he walks casually his hind legs are stiff. However, when he's startled he has no problem taking off. He can jump up and down fine and his appetite is normal. I noticed it today and I'm wondering if he hurt himself while I was at work. He's an indoor cat. I'm thinking of monitoring him closely the next couple of days and then see how he's doing before taking him to the vet. Any suggestions?

I would the cat to the vet just to be sure,we could guess a lot of things from his symptoms,and you could even add arthritis.Anyway let us know how you go with him.

Check the length of the tail for bumps that could indicate a break.

Otherwise, check your cat's stool. Is it normal looking? Urine normal? It's possible your cat is having an intestinal issue that's causing discomfort such as tearing when going to the bathroom such as hard stool.
