I am a beginner here in the cat world so have no idea what to tell you. Just wanted you to know i am thinking about you and i am sure you arent doing anything wrong. You are a very good and caring pet owner. Is this Abby that is having trouble?
hugs to you and Abby from
me, the beagle and S
I don't think you are doing anything wrong. This is a nasty disease with a lot of dicomfort. I did find that those boxes of human wipes you use in the bathroon are real handy to wipe the mucous and soothe the cats raw areas.
I would call the vet if he is in great discomfort - thats just not right. I feel so bad for Abby.Archie is still making mucous and little poopies, but he seems to be getting better.
I will pray for the both of you....

You are an awesome pet owner, and I wish others would be more like you. You are not doing anything wrong. You are doing everything right by Abby. Like you said yourself, this condition can be controlled, which you are doing by watching him carefully and taking care of his diet. He's not bleeding-that's a very good thing. You never did tell me what the vet said about the mucus? Did ya talk to the vet?
I'd also give time for the special diet to work. Maybe a week or two. Who knows, maybe his bowel issues are from some sort of food allergy. Stay positive girl, you've got a lot of people backing you up on here! Do NOT ever forget that!
dominosarah - Yes, Abby is the one I am talking about. Thank you for thinking about us. I need that. Lots of kisses to the beagle and S. I still can't see your pictures. :(
You are lucky your cat is healthy. Hugs to you hun.
stretchycat - Thanks for replying. I am sooo glad to hear Archie is doing better! It's true, this is a nasty disease I am dealing with and I get frustrated that I see my cat like this and I can't do much. My chances of getting a dog are slim. My husband thinks we're spending too much money, time and energy on him.
Staci, my friend, I didn't talk to the vet back then about the mucus because this is new. Remember I told you 2 days ago? The mucus is transparent and there's just a lot. I will talk to the vet tomorrow but he'll most likely tell me to take him back. And yes, he isn't bleeding and that is an awesome thing, but this mucus now? Why? I'll give him a week or two, like you said, and then take it from there.
Thank you guys for your support. I never thought dealing with IBD would be this way. I feel so sorry for my kitty :(
dont know if this is of any help but one of my little dogs had the samr thing and i gave him boiled chicken meat no skin or bone mixed with natural yoghurt .It was recommended by a vet to do this when it got bad,and it eased it right up. NO harm in trying the worse thing that can happen is that Abby will turn her nose up at it.
Heidi is doing well the vet is pleased that the cancer has slowed down heaps, and he hypnotized her today, and she was relaxed for the rest of the day!! I was absolutely amazed!! I knew that it can be done with chickens but a cat!! unreal....
I just wrote on your thread. I'm very happy for your cat. Keep up the good work with her. Looks like the vet is also doing a great job. Believe me, I'm super glad Heidi is doing well. She is a beautiful cat :) I'm always thinking about you both. :)
what color is mucus? if clear not so bad. a way of cleaning inside. if green or yellow possible infection. vet can tell you best.
The mucus is clear. I would love to know what it means. I did some research and I read that cats with IBD tend to evacuate a lot, and sometimes the evacuation consists of mucus only, just because of this health condition. Today I got home to a cat covered in stool. I don't know what else to do. The stool is very loose. The litter box was full because he obviously uses it a lot. But my fella plays and complains, so I guess his discomfort isn't affecting him that much. I need to find the product Savas told me to buy to make him use the box less frequently.
Archie went in for a barium enema the other day..well, they put a tube down his esophagous and let the bsrium flow. it went thru the stomach ok, through whole small intestine with no blockage and thru part of the colon. there were little sausages lined up waiting to go outwoth what he said were mucous around arou nd them. he is trying to lubricate hinself. he gave him a shot of cortisone, something to calm the stomach cramps and a laxative called lactulosE(milk sugar)IT TOOK A COUPLE DAYS AND POOING IN ODD PLACES AROUND THE HOUSE, BUT HE IS LIVELY, GOING OUSIDE WHEN IT'S NOT SNOWING OR RAINING, AND TODAY BROUGHT A BIRD OFFERING INTO THE LIVING ROOM.sorry about the caps. mmm...bird soup. I guess he has heard us talking about going to the food bank and wanted to help out. I mix the lactolose with his food once a day. he is going a solid movement and likrd the hills Z/D.
Have a spooky day and don't walk under any black cats.
kisses
stretchycat and archie and nerms.
they shaved his bum...made it much easier to get the dried on stufff off.
I feel so bad for Abbey. Is there anything I can do? I pray every night for the two of you.Keep me posted.
I see the gyno tomorrow...Im derssing up...but I think I will have hubby draw some bats and cats where it counts.
I'm so glad everything is working out for your baby!!!! That kitty deserves the best!
Abby gets his bum shaved every time I take him to the vet, so I know what you mean. Now the loose stool has become diarrhea, typical of a cat with IBD. So far no blood, but this diarrhea thing is so uncomfortable. I had to bathe him today. His butt looked horrible with all that stool showing. He was dragging his butt on the floor....definitely a sign of discomfort. Who likes to have a dirty butt, right?
I hope everything went well at the gyno :) And please, let me know how your kitty is going. Take care hun. Thank you for posting and for all your support. It bothers me to know a lot about IBD yet there's nothing I can do but sit and watch :(
D-M-M-N, Archie and Abby are getting brazillian waxes!!! And, I am too chicken! LOL
