Hi there! My cat Mackavelli was mauled in the face by a dog and had to have mandibular surgeries. He is very lucky to be alive. Sadly, the surgeons are believing there is some neurological damage as it has been over a month and Mackavelli cannot voluntarily close his jaw. They have utilized a tape muzzle in the meantime to keep his jaw closed, and he is continuing to eat through his esophageal tube. The first time the E-tube was placed, it fell out within a week and a half. My fiance' and I were assured that it would last until it needs to be taken out, and with our lack of knowledge of this situation, we honestly didn't know it was in the process of coming out and it seemed pretty sudden. Now Mackavelli has had the tube reinserted, and it looks like this one is coming out as well. This one has only been in for a little over a week. My question is this: Is it okay for me to keep carefully pushing it back in? He doesn't react to me doing this, but it makes me slightly nervous. Unfortunately the surgeons who performed the operations and inserted the feeding tube are 4 hours away (no specialists in my area could perform the surgery needed), and we can't afford to drive there for a third time. The surgeons come into town every two weeks, so Mackavelli will be seeing one of them this Friday. I am hoping by my pushing it back in that it will stay in place until he sees one of the surgeons in less than a week. Any suggestions to keep it in place once I push it in are also greatly appreciated as it seems to slide out rather quickly, especially if Mackavelli shakes his head or moves suddenly. Thank you for your time and response! (:
